Mandrake
Chapter 6
Mandrake (mandragora)
Climate:
- common in Europe
Appearance:
- Shaped like a parsnip with its roots resembling a human
- Above ground it looks similar to tobacco plants
- From 5 to 40 cm high
Properties:
- Grows around men who have been hung
- Causes hallucinations, comas and dream-like states
- Screams can cause death
- Mandrakes will scream until they have a fatality
Uses:
- Sleeping Potions
- Love Potions
- Cures Petrification
History:
- Herbologists used dogs to pull the mandrakes out of the ground, thus killing the dog and silencing the mandrake
- In 1954 Potioneer Amaradus Spencer discovered a humane way to harvest Mandrakes, involving ear muffs and submerging them in aquatandisu potion, which will stop them from screaming.
Repotting:
- Follow safety instructions
- Use a medium to heavy soil
- Add water equivalent to 75% of the plant's approximate weight
Safety:
- Wear earmuffs and dragon-hide gloves securely at all times
- Contact with the mandrake can cause coma
First Aid:
- Wash effected area and call for a professional healer who will give the victim a tandisu injection
