Valerian Root

Valerian Root and Springs
Climate:
- Native to Europe and parts of Asia
- Migrated to North America
- very strong acidic soil (4.5-5.0 pH)
- Requires 7 hrs of sunlight
Appearance:
- Forms Bunches of White Flowers
- Can grow to be 5 ft tall
Properties:
- Harvested in Spring and Fall
- Seed should be planted 1/8 inch down into the soil
- Strong Smelling Springs (a mix of Cherry and Vanilla)
- Sedative powers
- Roots are Anxiolytic - therefore used in calming and sleeping potions
- Very attractive to cats (like Catnip)
Uses:
- Draught of Living Death
- Forgetfulness Potion
- Calming and Sleeping Potions
- Sprigs used in Perfumes
- Root used in Eastern European weddings (Groom wears it to ward off envious elves)
