Chapter 3
Gillyweed
Climate:
- Needs a lot of water, but very little sunlight
- Moderately alkaline soil (7.9-8.4 pH)
- in the Mediterranean Sea
Appearance:
- Grey-Green, Slimy Bushel
Properties:
- Of the Giliac weed family
- fresh, nourishing feeling when eaten
Uses:
- Consumption makes the eater grow gills and have webbed fingers and toes
- Used in Gillywater - a popular drink with Gillyweed, cucumber, and sometimes the addition of the spicy Gillyflower
Controversy:
- There is some debate on how long the effects of Gillyweed last in salt water, though most experts agree it lasts for about an hour in fresh water.
- Some experts say effects can last up to three hours in salt water while others claim there is no difference in Gillyweed's reaction to salt and fresh water.
