St Oswald’s Home for Old Witches and Wizards is a retirement facility for the old and infirm. Residents have a multitude of problems from not being able to control their magic, to needing regular medical attention. Even though they may have family members they may not be able to cope with the ailments of the person. Some people have been through traumas and need specialist care.

Those that have read other books of mine will remember Amos Diggory, Cedric Diggory’s father. He has been a resident for a number of years. He never dealt well with Cedric’s death and was admitted in 2016. It was very similar to having Alzheimer’s or Dementia although I fear I do not know much about the difference with both. I know that in both instances you forget a lot about what has happened. I went to visit him a few times but I felt it did neither if us any good, as he just asked how Cedric was.

I have been to other retirement homes for my Muggle grandfather and it is quite similar although they can sometimes forget they can do magic, or make people do things by accident. It has to say that watching an old lady make a male nurse tap dance is however quite amusing. The wheelchairs and zimmer-frames are also charmed for amusing delight.

My grandmother Eileen Snape (née Prince) was a resident of St Oswald’s for a short period and used to tell people off for not playing gobstones properly. I don’t know what happened to her but when I went to tell my grandfather of my uncle’s death the records showed that she had already passed on. I believe I would have been 16 when this happened, but I can’t be sure.

As a building it is perfectly respectable. Old stond building. I often would like to think that Cedric would be happy with his father in there. He only ever wanted the best for him, and I try to make sure that is seen to. I tend to blame my family for the problems in his own family and try and correct them. I doubt I can ever achieve a good job but hopefully I can do it for Cedric.
