Teachers and Mentors
Chapter 1
For those of us lucky few that walked the halls of Hogwarts between 1990-1997, you would have been more than likely to hear people say that the job is cursed. In a way it was. If you were not learning about boggarts, kappas, pogrebins and doxies you were being taught by the worst teachers imaginable.
I would like to think that my first year passed without any serious events. I had a perfectly normal teacher with a perfectly normal approach to teaching. His name was Professor Quirinius Quirrell. We learnt all manner of things with him such as basic defence charms, Gnomes, Bowtruckles, (things you would probably put with care of magical creatures, but never mind), Ghosts, Gargoyles etc… one annoying thing about him was that he would stutter occasionally. He seemed to have it under control but when he got nervous, he tended to spit quite a lot, which made people a bit nervous.
Professor Quirrell was in fact the only teacher that I had for more than a year in Defence against the Dark Arts. Although when school started again in September, he had adorned a new turban that he kept wrapped tightly around him. We started learning about duelling, murtlaps and a few easier jinxes. Obviously, things were getting more intense but he didn’t concentrate all that much on our class. He wasn’t a bad teacher because everyone was interested in what he was saying. I just think that is more down to the subject itself. It just seems to be something that grabs people’s attention. What happened to him…? He disappeared under various rumours.
In my third year my teacher was Professor Lockhart who started a Duelling club even though our class had already done it. It was useful for other people. We hated him he was… well you can read about that another time. With him we learnt about Boggarts and creatures of fear. I would much rather have learned them with Lupin I hear they had a much better time. What happened to him…? Backfiring Memory Jinx.
Professor Lupin was my teacher in my fourth year. He was really informative and dedicated to his work. I enjoyed having him as a teacher even if there were “unspoken” things that we were not supposed to talk about. We learnt about werewolves, vampires and dementors. What happened to him…? Technically he left before he caused too my trouble for the school. In truth he is now dead.
In my fifth year I took my OWL in Defence against the Dark Arts. By this time, I was able to produce a good patronus and we learnt about curses, simply because Professor Moody said they might come up in the exam. Professor Moody or Mad-Eye as he was more commonly known was actually Bartimus Crouch Junior under the guise of Polyjuice potion. I always think that Barty could have been an excellent teacher or Auror if he had tried but obviously had never wanted to. A calling that it is a shame he missed. It is due to him that I passed my OWLs with such great marks. What happened to him…? Well Barty had his soul sucked out of him by dementors and the real Mad-Eye Moody is now dead.
As I continued into my sixth year, I ended up with Professor Umbridge. from what I hear it was a treat that I got her after my OWLs because I doubt, I would have passed them if I had continued with her. Genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had. Even though we had passed our exams she decided that wasn’t good enough and that we should be checked on every small detail at the time. I was quite happy not to use magic. I think I was the only person in the building. What happened to her…? She is now in Azkaban for crimes against Muggleborns. WOOP!!!
For my seventh year I was able to witness my uncle, Professor Snape as Teacher of defence against the dark arts and became Professor’s Assistant. It was really hard. Because of Umbridge we basically did 2 years in one. Although the dark arts that was being taught was certainly something, I knew a good deal about. What happened to him…? Dead.
My eighth year you could say was the beginning of my Auror training. For that I got a mentor. Tonks. What happened to her…? Again, she is dead. Among people remaining and holding down the fort are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger & Percy Weasley.
Congrats to all of us that got through each and every year. We should be proud of ourselves. I put in a photo of Kingsley because you helped us through the hard times and even though it was tough it really helped us. Thank you. Perhaps you have worked out what I did last year, perhaps you have not. Let me just say that I will get around to it … eventually.
