Lesson 1- Introduction, History, and Ancient Foci
Ancient magic using witches and wizards were more open and celebrated (Greece and Egypt).
Magic protects tombs- Gringotts curse-breakers are still working on them.
Ollivanders- 382 BC start making wands. The first practiced crafting of wands. Before, wands were too temperamental.
Wizarding worlds are ruled by separate cultural and locational governments established after the Council of Warlock's 400 year reign starting with the separating from muggles in the 1000s.
1600s started the persecution of magic (ineffective due to flame freezing charms).
1689 International Statute of Secrecy law completely separates magic and muggle. It took 3 years to enforce fully internationally.
Accidental Magic Reversal Squad- removes evidence and memories of magic from muggles.
1875- Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery- all magical under 17 cannot perform magic outside of school, unless life is at stake. The Trace tracks your magic and detects any not in an exception zone, includes Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.
Before magic was taught, it was uncontrollable. Caused many noticeable events in mythology.
Tools created to focus magic and control it. Wands are the most effective foci of magic.
Wand- wooden shaft, magical core.
Wand-Lighting and Extinguishing- illuminates or extinguishes the tip of a wand.
Too much charge= scarlet, Too little= white.
