Rowena Ravenclaw
Chapter 2
Rowena Ravenclaw was a Scottish witch, and one of the four founders of the Witchcraft and Wizardry Hogwarts School. She was known for her creativeness and intellect.
In the 11th century Ravenclaw died shortly after she became fatally ill. Legend had it that the cause was a broken heart, because her daughter Helena ra away with her diadem. At Hogwarts, Rowena 's portrait remains.
Sometime in the 10th century Rowena Ravenclaw was born. She was from Scotland's glens, and was born or married into the Ravenclaw family. Rowena was Helga Hufflepuff's close friend, from the Welsh valleys.
Rowena received a wand at an uncertain time, and by mysterious means. It is likely that she bought it from the Ollivander family, who had been in the wand-making business since 382 B.C . Or, made it herself.
Rowena Ravenclaw and her good friends Helga Hufflepuff, Godric Gryffindor, and Salazar Slytherin together founded Hogwarts Castle and created Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sometime around 993, unified by the shared purpose of building the world's best magic school. It is a common historical hypothesis that Rowena has both selected the location and name of Hogwarts, who imagined that a warty hog would take her to a lake cliff. She came up with the ever-changing floor plan as well.
Rowena, according to intellect and experience, chose her pupils. Therefore Ravenclaw House values in its members a bright intellect, wisdom, imagination and cleverness. At some point Rowena bore a daughter, Helena, who had been educated at Hogwarts by Rowena herself.
after a time in which the school enjoyed great prosperity, Rowena 's fellow founder, Salazar Slytherin, proposed a controversial action in which Muggle-born students should not be admitted to Hogwarts based on their heritage Ironically, Muggle descent comprised a large percentage of Ravenclaw's own house. She and the rest of the founders opposed Slytherin 's proposal, and the conflict grew to such a degree that Salazar finally quit the school permanently.
At some point after graduating from Hogwarts School, her daughter Helena stole the diadem of Ravenclaw, which had been said to improve the knowledge of the wearer. Helena was jealous of the renowned knowledge of her mother and took the diadem to Albania with her, far from the reach of her mother, in hopes of surpassing her. Shamed of the deception of her daughter, Rowena decided to keep the treachery of her daughter a secret from others, and denied it even to her fellow founders.
Rowena became fatally ill soon afterwards. She begged the Baron, who was in love with Helena, to go and find her daughter, only wanting to see her one more time, disregarding her treason. Eventually, he pursued her to Albania's woodland, but when she refused to go back with him, the Baron went into a fit of fury, angry with her resistance, envious of her freedom, and stabbed her. He was instantly overwhelmed with remorse, and so took his own life. The two would later become, respectively, house spirits of Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Rowena obviously had no chance to reconnect with her daughter until her early death, unless the ghost of her daughter came to the castle before the death of Rowena. Legend has it that a "broken heart" was the cause of her early death. This story may have had origin in her estrangement with her daughter. Rowena was the first of the founders to die.
Rowena 's lost diadem would remain concealed for decades in her isolated locale until the mid-1900s, when her daughter's ghost was charmed by Slytherin student Tom Riddle to expose her location. Acting on this evidence, by making it into a Horcrux, Riddle took the diadem from its hiding place and defiled both it and Ravenclaw 's memory. The defiled artefact was then concealed within Rowena Castle before it was indirectly demolished by Harry Potter during the 1998 Battle of Hogwarts.
Rowena was a stunning and austere-looking and somewhat threatening woman from her statue in Ravenclaw Tower and Xenophilius Lovegood's bust of her. She was tall, she had fair skin, dark eyes, and black long hair. Rowena had used a pronounced Scottish accent when she talked.
The most remarkable qualities of Ravenclaw are her intellect and imagination. For her pupils, she appreciated the same characteristics. Rowena seemed stern and daunting, but she seemed to be compassionate and caring in spite of this. This was shown by the fact that she was able to ignore the betrayal of her daughter only to see her on her deathbed one more time.
Ravenclaw was very proud, not admitting that her daughter had run away with her diadem not even to her close friends, the other founders. However, she wasn't prejudiced towards those of Muggle parentage or inheritance, as she disagreed with Slytherin's views on admittance to Hogwarts and a large percentage of her house were of Muggle descent.
Ravenclaw was described as the most brilliant witch of her time. Her capacity to cast a Patronus further showed her superior magical abilities.
Charms: Rowena had a great degree of charm ability and experience. She bewitched the Sorting Hat with the other creators into a dynamic magical artefact with character to sort students long into their lifespan. She had possibly adorned her diadem to improve the wisdom of the wearer. In addition, amid its enormous complexity, Rowena was able to conjure up a non-corporeal Patronus
Magical architecture: The ever-changing floor plan of Hogwarts Castle is believed to have been devised by Rowena herself.
Divination: Rowena dreamed, according to legend, of a warty hog taking her to a cliff by the lake where Hogwarts will be founded with her companions.
Invention: Rowena probably designed and enchanted her diadem. No other witch or sorcerer succeeded in replicating the results.
Wand: A wand made of undisclosed woods, weight, core, and flexibility was owned by Ravenclaw.
Diadem: To improve the wearer 's intelligence, Rowena owned a diadem enchanted, possibly by Ravenclaw herself. Her daughter Helena Ravenclaw stolen the diadem and kept hidden in an Albanian forest. It was later discovered and transformed by Tom Riddle into Horcrux.
Ravenclaw is simply 'raven' + 'claw'. A raven is a large black bird that belongs to the crow family. However, Ravenclaw's symbol is an eagle. Ravens and other birds of the corvid family are known to be smart birds and quick learners.
