Chapter 1
I won’t, can’t and will never deny that I ran away. May, June, July… I didn’t know where to go what to do and I didn’t want people to find me. I had nowhere left to go and felt that I had nobody left either. I didn’t want to go to my house in Knockturn Alley because I associated it too much with my uncle. I didn’t want to go to Cokeworth because I associated it with my mother and The Burrow I associated with Fred. Malfoy Manor had been a place of refuge I had been cared for by the Malfoys but I associated it with my father. Every single person was now dead. So, I ran. I was surprised I could still apparate but as I was not a mess on the floor, I decided that my powers were strong enough and so I apparated around the country. These are a few of the places I went to.
STONEHENGE, WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND: When you don’t know where to go at least go somewhere you have heard of. Stonehenge isn’t that far away from Malfoy Manor as the crow flies and we had studied about it so I at least knew something about the location and what it was about. I went in human form because, well I was afraid to go any other way. It is a magnificent prehistoric monument of various rocks placed in a circle, each around 13 feet high. It was close to midsummer so there were many druids, pagans and Muggles of all sorts when I went. They have made a visitors’ centre now and you can visit.
CHEDDAR GORGE, SOMERSET, ENGLAND: I love Cheddar Gorge I spent a long time here. It is the place that Charlie found me when he came looking. There are high limestone rockfaces and sounds echo in the valley. There are underground tunnels all around and this is where I spent a good amount of my time. Water dripping around me into pools in the floors. Even in the summer it was cold and damp.
RUM ISLAND, SCOTLAND: This is actually another place I came with Charlie. I don’t think he liked the bridge in Cheddar Gorge so we settled on a beech in Scotland. It is a beautiful place and one of the places we go on Care of Magical Creatures Field trips, if and when you get them. I love visiting the castle it has endless possibilities but the magical marine life is bountiful.
NORFOLK, ENGLAND: I have no idea where I was, other than somewhere in Norfolk, by a windmill. It was one of the most real pains I had ever been in. I splintched myself. I was lucky. I didn’t end up in any real danger, or with limbs in a different part of the world, which I very well could have done I managed to slice my left leg and ended up with blood pouring out of my hip. Luckily, I was taught to always carry a bottle of Dittany with you at all times. Norfolk itself is actually very nice. Full of quiet canal boats, windmills and puffins. Always a place I go back to even today. It struck me that I had seen this countryside before when I was on the Hogwarts Express.
SNOWDONIA, WALES: Of Course, I spent ages high up in the peaks of the Snowdonian Mountains. I spent most of my time listening to the melody of the Common Welsh Green. You can see why it is so famous, the landscape up there is spectacular and the dragons are barely visible even to a trained wizarding eye. Peaks, Valleys, lakes and trees. I was so happy there. It’s no wonder that we have been back time and time again.
