Chapter 2: Flashback; Azalea Acquires A Wand
Chapter 2
I received my wand on my 11th birthday, in Ollivanders. While it was a scary day for me, I was excited as well. I walked in and almost immediately my eyes caught a tattered, sapphire blue box. I walked directly towards it, without stopping to ask for help or acknowledge Mr. Ollivander. I grabbed the box from the shelf and took it to the counter, ready to purchase. However, Mr. Ollivander said to me, "Girl! Not so hasty. You must make sure the wand...chooses you." He then proceeded to lift the lid off of the box and pushed it gently towards me. The moment my fingers touched it, before I had even picked it up off of its soft, purple cushion, the wand and I both knew. It began glowing a bright green, and warmed to the touch. I had done my research on wands, but not nearly enough. Mr. Ollivander then educated me on my particular wand.
"Ah! What a reaction, see? That'll be the wood reacting to you; it's spruce, you know. It does well with someone who has a strong heart and good spell casting ability; although you won't have learned much of that yet, eh? You must have quite a sense of humor on you as well, spruce does just fine at choosing the funny people. Unicorn hair.. hmm, a curious combination, as unicorn hair isn't QUITE as powerful as the other cores, however, it is certainly the most faithful. While it's not as powerful, I'm certain that the spruce will make up for it. You see, the wand and its core must be able to work together, and if they were both the strongest, they would always be battling each other, and then...then, you would have an unruly wand."
Mr. Ollivander began to pace, and he cleared his throat. "You know who else had a unicorn core? The famous Draco Malfoy. That boy...not one I'm likely to forget...Anyway! Now as for the length of your wand. Nine and three quarters is a good length! Very good, very good indeed! Since you are rather small in stature, don't go thinking that's why your wand may be a bit smaller than your friends. On the contrary, it means you have big abilities that your wand wants to help you learn and it is trying to make it easy for you to handle. It's quite swishy, as well, you'll soon learn." The wandmaker cleared his throat a last time. "Now, off you go! I'm sure you've got at least a dozen books to purchase. Good luck with your new wand; and remember: be kind to it and it will be kind to you, in return....."
