Leaving her there was the hardest thing he had to do simply because he knew he would not be able to find her after that. He knew too that she had a right to be scared. If the ministry didn’t think of her as a Death Eater along with her father would they think of her as traitor? Or worse did the Death Eaters want her. He knew she wasn’t safe but she was changing, transforming all the time, hopefully that was enough.
When he got back, he left the deluminator on Ron’s bed with a note on it.

When Ron showed Harry the note, they came up with the conclusion that perhaps Charlie had decided it wasn’t the best idea to talk to George about Lou, after all times were tough at the moment.

Charlie sat on his bed before dinner and contemplated the conversation with Lou. He couldn’t get it out of his head why he had found her. They had always been close, not like the Loo & Gred & Forge bond, but he had known her first. He couldn’t work it out though.

There was a feeling… “I’ve found you, you’re safe”, but she was like a sister… “I’ve found you, you’re safe”, his brother’s girlfriend “I’ve found you, you’re safe”, he couldn’t work it out.

An owl zoomed through the window that evening narrowly missing the coat rack. The name was to:

This letter was the first and only message from Louisa. Another came about a week later from Bill but was intercepted by Hermione and Ginny who had now started looking at the owls for Louisa’s handwriting. Why?
When the first letter arrived from Louisa, Ron and Harry told Hermione and Ginny the whole saga about the Deluminator. It explained a lot. It explained how words they had been using turned up in the letter and then on the same day Charlie borrows the Deluminator they get a letter from Lou.

“It doesn’t mean that he met up with her, or used it” said Hermione

“and even if he did there’s no way he’d know where she is now” commented Harry

“still it’s worth asking him isn’t it?” said Ginny

“I bet George feels better just with the letter” said Ron

“Quiet aren’t you!” retaliated Charlie.

“no point pretending then is there” said Ron “did you see her or not?”

“I told you, I thought better of it, I didn’t use it or give it to George.”

Hermione and Ginny were both giving the most piercing looks as though they thought they could squeeze the truth out with their stares. Ron and Harry were both unconvinced but took the reply anyway. Determined to make it into something else.

A week later there was a figure on the hill adjoining the Burrow. Only a year ago a similar figure had made this journey for a wonderful wedding, to be greeted by her best friends. She looked towards the house and tried to keep each footstep going in front of the other. She glanced at the tree, her tree, greeted it. Arthur came out of the shed and Molly stood at the door.

She was home.
