CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1
12th April 1998, was rememberable to me. I had been staying at Malfoy Manor, the place as all high-up inner Death Eaters Understood to be his base. It was the Easter Holidays and Draco was home. These were rare occasions that Narcissa and I had come to prosper in. I would have someone to talk to and an excuse to not be around Bellatrix.

I was sitting in the drawing room with Lucius, Narcissa and Draco when the tinkling of the iron gates sounded an approach. The gargoyles trigger a voice in the house that alerts Lucius and Narcissa to who it is and why they are here. A small statue announced “We’ve got Potter”. It only took Draco and I a fraction of a second to look at each other, agree and continue. We heard the heavy wooden door bang shut nobody seemed to move.

“What is this?” called Narcissa. My back was turned and I didn’t dare move. Draco had slumped so low in his chair that I could hardly make out his face.

“We’re here to see he who must not be named!” I now understood. It was Greyback the werewolf that had attacked Bill. He wasn’t high on my nice list and he was even lower on Draco’s.

“Who are you?” There was nervousness in her voice she knew exactly who he was but they were questions they had to ask.

“You know me! Fenrir Greyback! We’ve caught Harry Potter!” and he obviously had no idea of the powerful rules in play at the time. I saw Draco glance up and give a very quizzical look.

“I know e’s swollen, ma’am, but it’s ‘im” There was another voice, one of the snatchers. He’d been coming in several times over the last few weeks claiming that he had Potter. He was just wanting gold. “and this ‘ere, see the girl? The Mudblood whose been travelling with Potter.” Unfortunately, I did a much better job at concealing my feelings from Lucius than Draco did. Whose face had turned a greenish white at the mention of Hermione being found.

“Follow me, Draco is home, if that is Harry Potter, he will know.” As she entered the room Lucius and Draco got to their feet, I made a dash for a darker corner by the fireplace.

“Well Draco?” came Lucius’s voice. “is it him?” I was watching carefully. It was Harry. Ron. Hermione and Dean. I didn’t spend six years in the same common room to not recognise them even under a stinging jinx. But Draco seemed to have a different answer. “I can’t be sure.” It wasn’t good enough for his father, not good enough to risk calling mine. “look carefully” he kept saying, “come closer, everything will be forgiven”. I couldn’t help myself but I was counting us up 1-Werewolf 1.2.3.4 Slytherins and possible 1.2.3.4.5 Gryffindors we were matched downstairs I knew there were more for the Potter side but there was Bellatrix as well…

“That wasn’t us” I heard Greyback say it was as if he was finding a get out plan.

“Looks more like a Stinging Jinx to me” said Lucius.

“We have to be certain, Lucius, completely sure before we summon the Dark Lord. They say this is his but, it does not resemble Ollivander’s description. If we are mistaken… remember what he did to Rowle and Dolohov?” There was silence, trepidation. Me and Draco looking at the prisoners. I don’t even know if they recognised me.

“What about the Mudblood then?” piped up Greyback. My heart was in my mouth. I didn’t know where the thumping noise was coming from. How do you tell your father that your boyfriend is from a blood traitor family? And the prisoner in front of you is his brother… Answer: YOU DON’T! YOU PROTECT THEM!
