Old enough

Chapter 1
Whatever you call her, my sister, my half-sister, my guard, my best friend’s cousin, a liar, undesirable, trackable… On the 3rd March 1998 a new person came into this world and I had absolutely no idea. At the time I was 19 years old and for those of you unable to understand the point of this, I therefore became old enough to be my sister’s mother. I have no idea if my father knew that Bellatrix Lestrange was pregnant and have no idea if he even knew that there was ever even a possibility of a child being born in the Malfoy Manor. Let me put it to you this way…my father was a determined man and had his eyes on only one prize. If that did not include getting his life back the way he had wanted it then so be it.

By my limited skills, I was at Hogwarts when my sister was conceived, acting as Head Girl in my final year. I then went back to the Manor for some time and due to bad taste, which some may put down to magical morning sickness I was staying clear of Bellatrix so did not notice anything. The last time I remember seeing her before March would have been December, when I went with Draco for Christmas day. I can’t say it was much fun, not as much fun as a Weasley Christmas but I did see her.

Perhaps you come from large families perhaps you are the same age as your aunt or uncle. I don’t have a big family; I wasn’t brought up like that. I found out about Delphini Riddle when she was just over six months old. She was the only biological family that I had left. Ironically, she had a big family. Were they ready and eager to take her in? I’m not sure. But they took us both in. I had already been part of the Tonks family and The Malfoy family and in a way the Black family. Together we combined the lot.

The years have rolled on I have grown, my sister has grown and eventually you will understand why I am going through all of the painstaking effort to write it all down. By the time she went to school at 11 I had just given birth to my first child. People had no idea who we were and no idea we were sisters. My husband is also a few years older than me so it was incredibly strange to us. There were instances at work when people would ask how his daughter was at school. Molly and Arthur have even had her referred to as their eldest granddaughter. It’s a strange old world. And I find it hard to get to grips with being old enough to be my sister’s mother. Even though that as a statement is silly. But her mother was older than mine and our father was in his 70s when she was born and I hardly knew him. The only person I knew was my uncle. A 38-year-old man. I am older than that now, as strange as it seems.

I imagine that over the years I spoke about my life to Delphi, about father, but this is just such a small part of how I feel. My sister is now 22. Please keep watch.
