Losing Contact
Chapter 20
Renè was keeping a distance from Harry, Ron, and Hermione a lot lately. She hardly kept up with school at all anymore, and often was found talking to Professor Dumbledore. Harry felt like he was losing her friendship, which was a horrible feeling to him because Renè and Harry used to be inseparable. Ron sort of found it funny and sad at the same time.
A couple days before the first Quidditch Match of the year, Harry saw Renè sitting by the Black Lake. She was writing quickly on scrap parchment, and her hair was a deep shade of ginger instead of bright ginger like usual. Harry sat down next to her and placed a hand on her arm to stop her writing. She stared at him questionly.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Did one of us say or do something?” Harry asked. Renè shook her head and pulled her arm out from under Harry’s hand.
“I-It’s n-not s-safe f-for me to b-be a-around you g-guys anymore.” Renè said, her voice shaking.
“What? What do you mean? Does this mean-” Harry said, to which Renè simply nodded.
“I-I have to stop being your friend. I-I’m s-sorry H-Harry. I-I really am.” Renè said, tears streaming down her face as she stood up and ran off. Harry blankly stared at the lake. He couldn’t help but thinking that this was his fault. His fault that he had just lost his best friend-almost sister.
Renè had run back to the Gryffindor Common Room and hid in her dorm the rest of the day. Harry wouldn’t talk to anyone, all because he lost Renè as a friend. And he knew how hard it would be to gain her back because her stubbornness is a strong trait.
“Harry, if you don’t tell us what’s wrong, we’ll make you.” Hermione said, getting tired of him not responding to anything Ron or her said.
“Renè said she can’t be our friend anymore. Let alone even talk to us. For reasons not listed.” Harry said, quickly. Ron sighed and walked off, annoyed. Hermione sighed and hugged Harry tightly.
“She’ll come around. I’m sure she really misses talking to you. She definitely has a reason though.” She said. Harry nodded and sighed.
“But what if she doesn’t?”
“There are other people on this Earth.”
Harry sighed and shook his head. “Nobody is close to her though. Not even at all similar.”
“Five year, life or death curse, Harry.” Hermione muttered simply before walking off. Harry watched her walk off, not having a clue what that meant.
