Unfolding Secrets
Chapter 2
René Weasley and Ron Weasley ran through the damp yard of the Burrow, not a worry in their minds. Mrs.Weasley had told them to clean up many times already, but they hadn’t done so yet. Mrs.Weasley really needed them to listen because she was hoping to explain something that René needed to know. It was hard to keep this secret longer than needed, but it kept René safe and happy. But the problem was the thing Mrs.Weasley needed to explain was harsh. Really harsh.
The secret that had been kept was that René had powers that she got the night You-Know-Who tried to attack her. These powers were rare to have and usually are gained at birth, not as a one or two year old. And these powers weren’t the typical “easy to control” type. They were almost like a curse. Not only that, but René did have a curse. It was called the five year curse. Meaning that every five years René would struggle with her powers badly and act differently than usual.
“Ron! René! Please listen and come inside already!” Mrs.Weasley yelled at the twins, very impatient that it was taking so long for the kids to come in.
“Sorry Mum! Coming!” René yelled back as she grabbed Ron’s hand and practically dragged him inside.
The kids sat down in the living room where their Mother was waiting. There was an awkward silence for a while, the kids noticing their mother seemed worried and their mother wanting the kids to speak first. Finally, Ron broke the silence.
“So, Mum, what’s wrong? Don’t say nothing, we know it’s definitely something.” Ron said. René rolled her eyes and looked at Ron with a look that said ‘Really?’
“Well, see, René isn’t really...normal. I’m sure you’ve been hinting that for a while, but she really isn’t normal. She’s an animagus, metaphorphigus, parseltongue, and she has a five year life or death curse she is under.” Mrs.Weasley said.
René stared at her mother in disbelief. She knew something was different about her, but not this much.
“How? How did all of that happen?” René said after a very awkward moment of silence.
“Well, umm, see a certain Dark Wizard used the killing curse on you…and, well, here we are now. But we had to argue with the Minister of Magic about your Hogwarts enrollment because of this. Because you’re a ‘danger’ to other students, as he put it. But we worked it all out…” Mrs.Weasley said, trying not to sound too dark about this.
“Wait...Voldemort-I mean...You-Know-Who, cursed me?” René asked, partially angry and partially upset.
“Well, yes. The night before the Boy Who Lived was known well to the wizard kind. You’re technically, so to put it, the Girl Who Lived. Dumbledore told me not to say too much, surely you’ll find out at Hogwarts. For now, I reckon we should go to Diagon Alley? Maybe. Since you guys need your things before next week.” Mrs.Weasley said. René and Ron both nodded and stood up from their seats.
“Fred! George! Percy! Ginny! Come on! We’re going to Diagon Alley!” Mrs.Weasley yelled before standing up also. Not too long after, two identical ginger haired boys, one taller boy with ginger hair and a younger girl with ginger hair came running downstairs. The family walked over to the fire and used a sort of powder (Flo Powder) to get to a strange pub called the Leaky Cauldron.
