Ministry work

Chapter 1
Ok so let me sort something out. Even though the Ministry crossed into the hands of Lord Voldemort that does not mean that there was no government. So, anyone telling me that I wasn’t technically an Auror has the wrong idea. I was, I am and I will remain like it. There are just a few points that you have to be aware of first.

1- The Minister of Magic Mr Scrimgeour was dead.
2- My Father was leader of Dark Magic.

There are a few other points but really you don’t need to know them. The Aurors were with the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore’s Army. It may not have been “regular training” but each one of us that started in the team in 1997 got assigned a partner to work with. We had some things that we had to do inside the Ministry, if you could get in that is, but most were jobs out on assignments. I can’t tell you much about the others mainly because it is confidential but mostly because I wasn’t with them and didn’t work with them. I was teamed with Tonks for the reason that Kingsley thought that it would be best to match abilities together. He was right and I learnt so quickly.

The other people were Gregory Greengrass, Alice Peck and Jade Jones. The problem was that Gregory I knew had been bullied by family to be a Death Eater. I wasn’t sure about him, and when we started, he was nowhere to be seen. Peck I didn’t know and she quit training after a few weeks JJ I knew quite well but she was another that was conspicuous by her absence. It turned out that Gregory was refusing to be a Death Eater and went to the dungeons instead, and JJ’s father had been killed as he was a muggle and her mother was in the cells of Malfoy Manor. Right under where I had been living.

You may think that it was pointless that I was working both sides but I wasn’t. Please don’t think that it was. I passed law exams, swatted up on all sorts of different techniques and most of all got Gregory and JJ out of the confines of where they had been “located”. JJ and her mother were in the depths of the Malfoy Manor. And Gregory was in the dungeons of Hogwarts, a place I knew well.

In the end let me just say that I managed to save them, to convince my father that allowing them out would be better. The phrases “how it looks for me” and “reflects badly” may have been uttered a few times. But whatever happened I got them out.

As I say, even though the Ministry was now taken over by Death Eaters, I had never known it be so busy. There were many new legislations coming in and, on the 1st September 1997, I was taken by Pius Thicknesse to the Auror Headquarters on Level two. I will say one thing and it’s the reason you hear the term “Daddy’s Death Eater” because I was allowed the same access as the high-ranking Death Eaters. I was permitted floo network access and direct apparition into the Ministry. This meant that I had no need to use the “toilet” access like others did. I found it disgusting. Not that it was unsanitary because they were not real toilets but it just felt undignified. I did use it a few times though, just to get a sense of what it was like. Our main job as Auror trainees would be to round up the muggle-born witch and wizards and have them register people. Tonks and I ended up doing a lot of paperwork, especially as she was heavily pregnant towards the end but it meant I got a good amount of work to do.
