Hi

Chapter 1
It was summer ’97 when I came upon Viktor Krum again. He was invited to Fleur and Bill’s wedding. I suppose they got to know each other well… but perhaps I’m racing ahead.

The first time, I mean the very very first time I had ever even heard about Viktor Krum was from Ron Weasley. He had a pathetic little statue of him holding a broom and waving. He showed it to me when I was at the Burrow once. He was the Seeker for the Bulgarian Quidditch National Team and he still hadn’t finished school. After that I was given a Quidditch book by Cedric that I “Had to Read” (but actually everyone else borrowed). The reason? Because we were going to the ’94 Quidditch World Cup and HE was playing in the final.

So, what do I know about Viktor? Well he’s nice, polite and charming. He went to Durmstrang Institute which is quite a good school these days. His wand was one of the last to be made by Gregorovitch before he retired. He was good friends with my cousin Garit Prince, if you speak elvish slowly, he actually understands you and I understand him. I also know that his grandfather was murdered by Grindelwald. In September 1994 he placed his name in the Goblet of Fire and entered the Triwizard Tournament. He dated fellow Gryffindor Hermione Granger for a while but those of us “in the know” knew that it would never last because she is just too smart for him. Because of Garit, I ended up spending quite a lot of time with Viktor when he visited Hogwarts but we didn’t really keep in touch. I think he wanted to keep in touch with the girls that he could write love letters to and writing to the ex-girlfriend of the recently deceased Cedric Diggory and niece of Professor Snape probably wasn’t high on his list. I sent him a message every so often to wish him well. Or if Garit saw him I asked to pass on my best.

Three years later and we were very different. I was so surprised to see him and yet I don’t know why. I shouldn’t have been. I guess. He knew Fleur and they had both been competitors together. The only one missing was Harry. We exchanged pleasantries, I asked how his Quidditch team were doing and he wanted to know about my family, which I was less willing to talk about but told him that Garit was doing very well. He asked me to dance and said I looked very nice, which caught the attention of a few Veela cousins. Only moments later I had George cutting in saying about how “he can take it from here”.

Since then I have tried to stay in touch with him. My life, took a move, to that side of the world and he has always maintained his politeness and kindness. His willingness to help others in times of need. I always felt that was something that was overlooked.

He retired from Quidditch in 2002 and took up a quieter pace of life but he came back in 2014 to play for the National team and we are very fortunate to say we got to see him. Viktor lives in Bulgaria with his wife and son, who also attends Durmstrang Institute.
