A Horcrux is an object that stores the soul of that person. It guards the essence of a person. So that if they were killed, part of them could remain behind. The first time that Harry Potter destroyed a horcrux, it was unknowingly. He destroyed my father’s diary that contained a fragment of his sixteen-year-old self.

A few years later Professor Dumbledore came to me with a question. A question he didn’t want people to know that he had asked me. I suppose he thought it might undo a lot of work. He knew that I had learnt a lot about my father, his family and my heritage not only at the school but through many links. We worked together, to find the ring that had once been owned by my Grandmother Merope Gaunt and her family. We both knew it must mean a lot to my father and Professor Dumbledore destroyed it. It wasn’t easy. There was magic of a very strange kind involved. This was the second horcrux.

The third horcrux was stolen. It was a locket a beautiful golden locket with the serpent on it that used to belong to my grandmother but someone took it. Harry found the real one and destroyed it. The thieving…

The fourth one they found was the cup of Helga Hufflepuff, nothing to do with me. The same as the fifth which was the lost diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw.

The sixth one I …heard because it was an unintentionally made horcrux and that was Harry Potter. I had my back to him I was in a tree we were all grieving.

The seventh and final one that Harry Potter destroyed was that of the snake Nagini.

Do not think that you cannot feel when a horcrux is destroyed. You can, you do. It is something in between being punched and the tickling sensation when the hairs on your arms stand up. I was able to feel the horcruxes of my father being destroyed and it felt like I couldn’t breathe for a moment. Over the years I’ve asked Harry and he said that it depended on whether he was destroying it or not. I guess because he was simply looking to keep himself and his friends safe rather than feel ok.
