Potioneers Herbarium
This book is an exhaustive study-compendium of the plants used in potions. A basic book for any potionner. Left unpublished since the death of one of the most famous potion maker of our times, L. Hope Wood, and now brought back to the bookshops with the help of her husband, Joseph Wood. L. Hope Wood died in 2004 from an incurable decease, though the circumstances of her death are still uncertain and many think that she died from an unsuccessful potion's experience. One thing we know for sure, she gave a strong and crucial contribution to the development of the Amentis Potion that allows progress in the case of insanities caused by Unforgivable Curses, as Imperius and Cruciatus curses. 'Potioneers Herbarium' was being written by Hope, she intended to make an universal index/compendium of all known plants, whether magical or mundane, used in the various potions. However, she died before she finished it. Her husband and some potionner colleagues and herbologists friends, joined together to finish this book in memory and tribute to Hope Wood.

Preface: About The Author
Chapter 1
L. Hope Wood was one of the most famous potion maker of our times.
Laura Hope Wood (née, Bones), was born in 23 of January of 1973 in Isle of Wight, in England. She is a descendant of a wizarding family, Bones, with both magical and muggle heritage. Laura, commonly known as Hope, was the younger sister of Amelia, Edgar and John Bones. Hope, her brother John and her niece, Susan, were the only surviving members of the Bones' family that was almost entirely slaughtered by Death Eaters and Voldemort, during the First and Second Wizarding Wars.
Hope was born during the First Wizarding War. Hope's early years were turbulent and covered with grief, sorrow and sadness. Both her parents were murdered by Voldemort in 1975. Her elder brother, Edgar, a member of the original Order of Phoenix, was murdered along with his
wife and children, in 1981, few months before the end of the First
Wizarding War.
Hope was deeply marked by these events and certainly her life experience sensitized her to seek a cure for the insanities caused by Unforgivable Curses (both her parents died by the Cruciatus curse). Hope and her brother John (the youngest) were raised by their elder sister, Amelia, and their grandmother, Seraphina Bones.
Hope went to Hogwarts in 1984 and was sorted into Ravenclaw House, unlike many members of her family that were Hufflepuff. She revealed herself as a great Potions student in her time. She was taught by Professor Severus Snape himself, that had recently began teaching at Hogwarts (1981).
She graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1990, with Outstanding N.E.W.T.'s grades in both Potions and Herbology. She also had N.E.W.T.'s in Transfiguration and Arithmancy and O.W.L.'s in Defense Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, Astronomy, Charms and Ancient Runes.
Hope eventually met her future husband, Joseph Wood, in Hogwarts. Joseph Wood, older brother of the famous Quidditch player of Puddlemore United's, Oliver Wood.
After leaving Hogwarts, in 1990, Hope started working as intern in the Department of Intoxicating Substances of Ministry of Magic. In the beggining of 92', Hope got a scholarship from the Institute of Magical Tropical Maladies, located in Portugal. She joined a research team and between 1992 and 1995 she studied numerous dangerous tropical plants, she even received an award for her research about Castor Oil Plant, a mundane plant that has the most poisonous seeds one can find.
In 1996, Hope returned to England and she started working in a Research Group at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. In this year, Hope lost her elder sister, Amelia (Head of the
Department of Magical Law Enforcement and member of the Wizengamot) that
was murdered by Voldemort.
Was in the St. Mungo's Research Group that Hope started developing a study that would lead to the discovery of Amentis Potion (in 2002), a potion that brought significant improvements for those who were deeply tortured with Unforgivable Curses as Imperius or Cruciatus. It does not cure permanent insanity, however, allows the patients some autonomy of life and in some specific cases, there were some moments of lucidity.
During the Second Wizarding War, both Hope and Joseph, joined Muggles' Protection Squad, to avoid serial murders among the Muggle community (unaware and undefended of the Death Eaters), they traveled through Britain, using Protective enchantments and securing and shielding several Muggles neighborhoods.
Hope married Joseph Wood in 1997. They had three children, Olaf (b. 1999), Bruno (b. 2001) and Claire (b. 2003).
L. Hope Wood died in 2004 from an incurable decease, though the circumstances of her death are still uncertain and many think that she died from an unsuccessful potion's experience. One thing we know for sure, she gave a strong and crucial contribution to the development of the Amentis Potion that allows progress in the case of insanities caused by Unforgivable Curses, as Imperius and Cruciatus curses, and brought meaningful progress for those - and they were many - who have suffered permanent damage from these curses during the Second Wizarding War.
'Potioneers Herbarium' was being written by Hope, she intended to make an universal index/compendium of all known plants, whether magical or mundane, used in the various potions. However, she died before she finished it. Her husband and some potionner colleagues and herbologists friends, joined together to finish this book in memory and tribute of Hope Wood.
