Chapter 5
"What do you think This is going to be like?" I heard Zeke ask the other as I collected our tickets from the kiosk the next day at the airport.
"I dunno," answered Nick. "Do you think they know we're coming?"
"Did you see him call or e-mail anyone after he ordered the tickets?"
"Not as far as I know."
"You done talking about me?" I joked, walking over to them. "Plane will be leaving soon."
They all looked like kids caught doing something bad as they followed me through security and to the gate. The flight seemed short, though the anticipation running high in Dien, Nick, Zeke, and Cameron probably made it seem a lot longer to them, maybe endless.
I could hardly believe I was doing this, I could have just told them everything. Why did I find it necessary to actually take them to my family?
I called ahead so that a car was waiting for us when we got off the plane. They tried to get information from me all the way to the house, but I kept my mouth shut; they had waited 14 years to meet my family, they could wait a few more minutes. When the car pulled up infront of the all too familiar house, I bit my lip, all of the regrets of this decision came flooding back. We climbed out of the car and headed up to the door after unloading or bags. I could see the excitement on their faces.
"Prepare yourselves," I warned them.
"For what, exactly?" asked Cameron.
"My family is like nothing you've ever seen."
"You're kind of freaking us out, dude."
"Good. You all wanted to meet my family and I'm just warning you of what you asked for. Now, let me tell you about each member a little.
"My mother Sienna isn't around much, which is probably good because she's a bad drunk, but she's always home more often during the last week of the month, which happens to be this week. My father Mikal is temperamental, my older sister Juely will not be here, so don't worry about her. Then there's Trystin, my younger brother, he's a little bi-polar, and his twin sister, Krystena, who, though never officially diagnosed, same as Trystin, has schizophrenia and multi-personality disorder.
"Krystena is really the hardest to talk to because of what she has. Her other personality is Amri. She will occasionally have conversations with Amri, but Amri stays in her head, so you only hear Krystena's side. Other times she'll be responding to herself as the personalities switch. It's unpredictable when Amri may make an appearance, however, it's guaranteed if Krystena feels like she's in trouble."
"Sounds confusing," stated Dien.
"You asked for it."
"Let's go," Nick said.
I took a deep breath, preparing myself. I hadn't seen or talked to my family in five years. Taking the key I'd never gotten rid of, I unlocked the door and stepped inside.
