Seventh Year
Chapter 1
By now it had become a sort of game. Meeting new teachers, finding out who they would be. Seeing if you could place new ones. I was about to start my seventh year at Hogwarts and so far, I had no idea who the new Defence against the Dark Arts teacher was going to be. We were definitely getting a new one because Umbridge had been sacked by the Minister of Magic and before that Professor Moody/Crouch had been sent to Azkaban, Professor Lupin resigned and Quirrell… disappeared in unforeseen circumstances.
On one of the visits that Professor made to Knockturn Alley I was given my letter as usual and informed that I would be HEAD GIRL that year. I couldn’t quite believe it. As I glanced along the list of formal duties, I was to pick a core subject. I really wanted to be the Transfiguration monitor but it was not on the list as it wasn’t a subject I was taking. So, I picked Defence against the Dark Arts. It was later that I realised that there was a glow beaming from Professor Dumbledore, and not just from any potion he had taken.
Who was it? well I found out fairly late but I still found it tough to keep it in. Our new Defence against the Dark Arts teacher was to be (drum roll please) Professor Severus Snape. I found out when I looked at the Defence against the Dark Arts books and realised, I didn’t need any. We had them already. I was used to not buying Potions books but usually I had others to buy.
I am so proud that I was at Hogwarts at the same time as him whilst teaching Defence against the Dark Arts. It was always an ambition of his and I can say, having already had him as a teacher that he is the BEST. I just remember everyone turning to look at me in the Great Hall whispering “Snape? Really? Did you know?” I had to admit that I did.
This of course left a different vacancy. One of Potions Master. This was filled by returning Professor Slughorn. I had him for Potions and Alchemy. He liked a drink, was mildly forgetful, looked a little too large and had a gigantic moustache. Which made him wonderfully amusing to watch.
