Gigi rubbed her eyes. She just wanted to sleep. A big yellow bus swerved the corner and halted to a stop near Gigi and some other kids. The doors opened, and not until the other kids took a seat in the bus did Gigi come out of her trance. "Hey! Hey! Wait up!" she cried. The bus showed no sign of hearing her, and by the time her legs woke up, the bus was out of sight. "Way to go," she muttered. "First day of school and you're already in trouble." Thankfully, walking around the farm had shaped up Gigi's legs, and she could run pretty fast. Gigi ran with all her might trying to follow the school bus, because she didn't know the directions to Seaword Academy. Panting, she finally halted to a stop and suddenly became very self-conscious about the sweat pouring down her neck. A brisk female voice was calling out "New students, please follow me!" Gigi turned around and the brisk female voice was right behind her. "Mrs. Bellon," her name tag read. "Hi, Mrs. Bellon, I'm Gigi Juliane." Mrs. Bellon glanced at her paper. "Come here, Gigi." She led her to a enormous room with lots of metal. "This the metal detector." Gigi stepped in. A beeping noise suddenly reached her ears. "Kid, take off that necklace," said a nearby police officer. Gigi glanced at her necklace. It was a family heirloom, from the 1500s. Reluctantly, she took it off. The police officer threw it into a dusty blue bin. "You'll have it back after the school day is over, kid." The day was not going well for Gigi.
