Chapter 1
"Brianna!" A voice spoke sharply, and Brianna jumped, then sighed. It was her sister.
"I'm coming!" she called. "I'm just -"
"Come right now!" snapped her sister. "I can't wait! You have to help me with the washing! Mother said so!"
"Okay, okay." Brianna laid down her torn coat, with she was mending, and went inside. Anna (her sister) was standing there, hands on hips, and she looked grumpy.
"Why are you so..." Brianna paused.
"Grumpy, you'd probably say! That's because I'm doing all the work around here, meanwhile you're lazing about! It's not fair!" Anna yelled.
Brianna sighed again. "Actually mother does most of the work!"
Anna glared at her, then snapped, "Now hurry up! Hang up the washing!"
Brianna walked over to a basket, and pulled out a pair of soaking socks, which she hung up. She continued her work, thinking. Why was sister being so snappish? She wasn't usually so grumpy. Maybe what she had said had been truebut Brianna doubted it. Then she knew. James Cothold was coming over today, and Brianna was sure that Anna secretly liked him.
