20 years later
Chapter 1
I didn’t find out about Sirius’s death until the Daily Prophet put it as one of their stories. This gives you an idea about how much I was sheltered from the outside world. I’ve written many letters over the years, here is one of the latest ones.
Dear Padfoot.
It’s been over 20 years since I last saw you, since we were Padfoot and Pup. None of us feel we got to say goodbye to you, not properly. My grief has brought me to a different place now, but I still look out the window of the houses I am in. I look at dogs and wonder if you are there.
I want to thank you for all the things you did for me. You may have thought you were unable to help but you did one of the most important jobs there was. Keeping us all going. And showing me where the right place to come back to was. If you get all the letters I send then you must be inundated, but until we transfigure again.

The last time I saw Sirius was the last day of the Christmas holidays. I had asked to go and visit him for Easter but it was “too risky” according to Lupin. I guess he was stretching his limits further and further. I was supposed to see him when the summer started but that time never came around. I never got the chance to say goodbye.
