Fate

Chapter 3

"So what you're saying is that we're the... Fates?" inquired Britnie. "As in the three people that cut a humans life line?"

"That is correct," stated the woman, Alyssa.

"But unfortunately Lecksi couldn't join us," said the man, Jamison.

Lynndziey and Britnie looked down, instantly sad as they usually were whenever Lecksi was mentioned. Automatically, Alyssa and Jamison apologized, but the sisters said it was fine. They were told of their power and why they had to wait until their eighteenth birthday.

"All of this information couldn't be taken lightly," said Alyssa. "Anyone with powers from this world has to wait until they are a legal adult before they find out about any of it."

"Unless there is danger," clarified Jamison. "Danger is the only reason that anyone can learn of their power or anything before they turn eighteen."

"How did we get this?" asked Lynndziey.

"It was chosen many years ago, every receiver of one of these powrs has been marked down since the beginning of time."

   "That long ago?"

"Indeed. Those that originated with these abilities decided to pass them along. They looked into the future for the best people to get these powers once it was time to pass them on. Female triplets are the only ones that can be Fates, which means you will keep this power for longer than any other gifted person."

Britnie and Lynndziey looked at each other, trying to judge the others reaction. Each of them thought about what they had heard from Alyssa and Jamison. Lynndziey thought it was kind of cool to be one of the Fates, to have control over death. They would be going there to Olympus three times a week to learn all they could of this land and the power. Occasionally others would cross their paths, either in Olympus or in the real world, so they were told to be careful. Grudges have been known to travel through the generations, and everyone with a power looked absolutely human, so they couldn't tell who was pure human and who was not, and they never knew which one might have a grudge against the Fates.

After almost an hour, Britnie and Lynndziey were allowed to return to Demonica. Jamison showed them the door they would be using from now on to travel from world to world. The door opened up to their rooms, each girl coming out of her own closet.

"That was..." Britnie started when she walked into Lynndziey's room.

   "Weird," finished Lynndziey.

"Yeah, but how cool is it that we have powers!?"

Lynndziey smacked her hand over her sister's mouth. She glanced around, worried. "Shh. They said we couldn't tell anyone, that includes Mom and Dad."

Britnie nodded and Lynndziey removed her hand.

"Sorry," she said. "I'm just really excited. Uh, it's getting late, I think I'll go to bed now."

The girls crawled into their own beds after changing and turned off their lights. But while Britnie was able to fall right into a blissful sleep, Lynndziey felt wide awake. Everything she had learned buzzed around in her head until she was at last covered by sleep at 2 in the morning.
