A Letter
Chapter 2
Esther Fawn and her brother, Augustus Fawn, raced down the halls of Hogwarts. Bursting into the Ravenclaw common room, the two collapsed on the sofa, giggling. Esther sat up and curled her legs underneath her.
"I won!" she announced.
"You did not!" Augustus argued, sitting up too.
"Oh yeah!?" Esther challenged. She leaned closer to her twin, smirking.
"Yeah." Augustus calmly stood up.
"Hey! Where are you going?" his sister asked, standing as well. They both faced each other, not daring to move.
"I am going to the Great Hall. Dinner should be starting soon." Augustus said. He drop the bag he had been carrying, which contained all his school work, on the sofa. Esther did the same.
"Do you want to race there?" she asked.
"No, I'm to tired for that." her brother responded. He and Esther headed out the door of the common room, on their way to the Great Hall.
"So, have you finished all your homework?" Esther asked Augustus. He shook his head, his shaggy black hair flopping over his forehead.
"Why do you always wait till the last moment?" Esther ran a hand through her almost identical black hair, disappointed that her brother had not finished his assignments. Augustus watched her.
"You know, I wish that just once you wouldn't push me to do everything the way you want it." he said. Esther was so shocked that she stooped in the middle of the hallway. She stared at Augustus.
"Mr. Fawn, Miss Fawn. Please come with me." said a voice behind the twins. Esther and Augustus jumped and spun around. There stood the new poitons master, Professor Wiccans. Her eyes were like icy orbs.
"Yes, of course, Professor." Esther replied, lowering her gaze, as not to look into the depths of the orbs. She and Augustus follwed reluctantly as Professor Wiccans led them through the twisting hallways of Hogwarts. They finally ended up in front of the headmaster's office. Professor Wiccans knocked hard on the enormous door.
"Come in." came the voice of Headmaster McGonagall. The three entered the room, Augustus and Esther hunkering down, afraid. The headmaster stood in front of her desk, holding a small peice of parchment. Esther studied the owl beside her. It did not look like any of the owls she had seen in the owlry. And she had memorized every owl that ever came in and out.
"Welcome, students. You may be wondering why I have called you to my office." McGonagall stated. The twins nodded vigorously.
"Well," the headmaster moved closer to them. "This morning Professor Wiccans received this letter."
