The Hogwarts Houses: Gryffindor

Chapter 3

"Said Gryffindor, 'I'll take only those with brave deeds to their name!'"

-The Sorting Hat

Gryffindor is by far the most well known house, as it is the one that Harry was sorted into, so this chapter will be for people who don't really know the Harry Potter story. Or maybe you're in Gryffindor yourself and want to know more about your house. Either way, you'll find this chapter very interesting.

       The Common Room:

As most of you already know this, I'll be very brief. The Gryffindor common room's secret entrance is located at the portrait of the fat lady halfway up the changing staircases. Because of the stairs, the route you take depends on the day. When you get there, the pass-phrase also varies, so you'd have to somehow obtain it beforehand. Once you speak it, proceed through the portrait hole and into the common room. It is a cozy tower, with a fireplace and a nice view of the Quidditch stadium. There are also two entrances leading to the girl's and boy's dormitories. The Transfiguration teacher is the head of Gryffindor house, but doesn't visit very often.

       The Symbolization:

The qualities of Gryffindor, again, are very well known, but this section is about more than that. The first one is bravery and courage. The second requires the student to be chivalrous and resourceful. Gryffindor is a very well thought of house, and is known for its hatred towards Slytherin and anyone who thinks that pure-bloods are better than everyone else. Their symbol is a lion, because, like any lion, a Gryffindor's fierce pride and loyalty to their house can not be competed with by any other houses. Their brave reputation is well deserved.

"Gryffindors, I believe, are the best students to walk this school because we're not afraid to do anything."
