Chapter 9
There would be ample time for fun, but to reach that, the friends would have to work hard, harder than ever and pretend. Pretend to be people they're not
The friends were drowning. Their lives were all just acting. They didn't belong, they weren't magic and they certainly were NOT Death Eaters. But they had to pretend. They had to act the parts to survive. And they were struggling. They could trust nobody and sometimes even lost trust in one another.
"You know what?" James suddenly declared. The others rolled their eyes and shook their heads at their friend's dramatics. "Remember how our lives used to be? We'd play card games and muck about. We were kids and that was allowed."
"Well..."
"Shut up, Rhi-anna," Lebron waved his hand in the air. "James has a point! Trouble is, we don't have Uno cards."
"Or any cards at all."
"Honestly you two. Do Spanish kids lack imagination?" Ella teased. Of course, she didn't mean it, she knew great people from many countries but she knew how to annoy the boys.
"I. Am offended."
"Good for you. Anyway, I was saying that we don't need cards, we could play other games. Truth or Dare, or Never Have I ever, that kind of thing!"
"OOh yes!" Jocelyn said.
"Let's get the beer!" said James. Ella punched his arm.
"No. Why do I have to be the sensible one?"
"Because you're the only one with common sense."
Rhianna snorted at Eloise's comment and shared a look with Ella. They both broke off in laughter.
"So," said Evan. "Are we playing never have I ever?"
"Why not?" Eloise said. Everyone else shrugged. "Okay, I'll go first. Never have I ever..." She paused and smirked at Ella "... attacked someone with a spade."
"Not fair!" Ella exclaimed. She was the only one to put a mark under her name.
"Ella you go next."
"Hmm... Never have I ever used vulgar language."
"What does that mean? " Eloise asked.
"Swearing."
Everyone other than Ella put a mark under their names.
"I'll go now," Jocelyn decided. "Never have I ever... watched... dodgy videos."
The boys cried in protest but each of them put a mark under his name.
Rhianna then looked at Jocelyn and Ella, "Never have I ever read a decent sized book in a day."
Ella set her jaw, "Well... Depends what you class as a decent sized book because what I class as one is different to-"
"War and Peace, you'd class as one but we're going with like a Harry Potter sized book. Ella, mark your name," Evan said. Ella stuck her tongue out at him put marked her name all the same.
"Never have I ever..." Lucas started. "Been tall!"
Ella and Rhianna sat ridiculously still and burst into laughter, they definitely had never been tall. Lucas was the shortest, then Ella, and then Rhianna.
The others all marked their names. The night continued in just fun and games like that and for that one night they almost forgot all about their worries. Just for one night.
