The Greater Good
Chapter 7
It didn't matter that they'd fought, in the end their friendship would always lead them back to each other...
The friends were growing tired of Evan's continued bitterness towards Lucas but they knew there was nothing to be done. The two boys couldn't be friends until Lucas grew up. It had always been fact that Lucas was immature and annoying, but there had only been other one incident where it had done any damage.
"- I think our best bet is to try and get them to be civil," Rhianna declared. "There's no way we can get them to be friends; that would be like telling Ella she wasn't allowed to read."
"How rude," said Ella.
Rhianna shrugged, "but so true."
"I still say we just kick Lucas out of the group," Lebron said.
"Bruh!" Jocelyn said. None of them heard the approaching footsteps.
"What ya talking about boisssss?" Lucas asked.
"Nothing," they all said quickly. Too quickly and too innocently. James burst out laughing and Jocelyn kicked him in the shins.
"Well, Dumbles wants us."
"Why?" Eloise asked, bemused.
"I don't know!"
It turns out Dumbledore wanted the same as the friends wanted. He wanted the friends to stick together again.
"Why?" Eloise asked suspiciously. "Ella's told me before about how you only use people, this isn't for our welfare is it? You need something."
She didn't ask it, she stated it. The girls smirked at Eloise's sharp wit.
Dumbledore's eyes turned to obsidian. The friends thought he was going to lash out so James took a protective position in front of his friends. To their surprise, Dumbledore answered Eloise, "You're right. We need you to become Death Eaters."
"What?" Evan exploded. The others, too, had looks of outrage on their faces.
"Suspicion has gone round about the eight of you and sooner or later you're going to have to drop out. We'll keep the interns and the others can be put to their original age. From their, we will get our spy to make you Death Eaters. You don't have a say in this and you cannot tell anyone. Especially not Harry or his friends. No one can know," Dumbledore said gravely. Ella let out a strangled sob.
"What is wrong with you?" James demanded. "You cannot tell us to join an organisation which supports the killing of muggles!"
"You can't make us do this," Rhianna said softly. More to herself than anyone else. "It's not right."
"I'm afraid I'll do what I have to do, for the greater good."
