Petunia
Chapter 2
Nala looked at her mother, silently begging for a response. She was hoping for an explanation. What on Earth did Petunia mean, it was real. It said it was a school for magic. Nala wasn't completely stupid. She stopped believing in magic at age 5. She was always mature for her age which made up- slightly- for how stupid her brother was. Petunia, it was clear, was not going to say anything.
"By sister, I guess you mean Aunt Lily, Harry's mum?" Nala asked, slightly frustrated. Petunia nodded weakly and fumbled for a chair which she sunk into. To Nala's bewilderment, Petunia started to cry. "So magic's real?"
"Yes," Petunia said. "We didn't want you and Dudley to get mixed up in that world."
"Why not?" Nala asked. She was very confused, why did her parents not want her to be magical?
"Because I wasn't part of it, was I?" Petunia said with a hint of regret in her voice. "That, and I lost Lily to a wizard. Murder."
"Murder? But...Car crash, right? Oh never mind. So is Harry magic?" Nala asked.
"Yes," she said. "And now we're going to lose you to that world, like Lily. It's dangerous Nala! It won't be safe. You don't have to go," she added.
"But I want to, I really do," Nala said. She knew she didn't fit in here and this must be why! Maybe she and Harry would get along now they had something in common.
"It's a boarding school, sweetie," Petunia said.
"But it's such a big opportunity. It's fine though, if you don't want me to, I won't," Nala said. Petunia sighed.
"You can go," she said. Nala grinned.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she squealed.
"Any second now, one of your teachers will come to explain it to you, if it's like Lily," Petunia said. Nala embraced her mother. She'd never known that Petunia missed her sister, she'd always given the impression that she hated Lily. But that was jealousy for you, she supposed.
