Chapter 2 The Train
Chapter 2
When we had landed, unseen by Muggles, in the street across from Kings Cross station, I pulled my trunk from the back of the carriage just as Nial hurried out of the station pushing a porters trolley. Once I loaded my trunk onto the trolley I pushed it into the station. I found platform 9 and 10 I pushed my trolley through the barrier and there I was on platform 9 and 3/4 staring straight at the scarlet steam engine billowing steaming and tooting it's whistle as a final call. I looked about me and saw parents hugging their children and hurrying them onto train. I felt a pang of jealousy and sadness that I suppressed immediately for my father had once told me "Save your feeling, suppress them until you really need them". I heaved my trunk onto the train wishing I was allowed to bring house elfs to school and found an empty compartment. I felt the train move away from the platform and head towards Hogwarts. I pressed my forehead against the window and let my breath fog up the glass. "Is this seat taken?" asked a sweet familiar voice. I looked up and saw Narcissa Black standing in the doorway shadowed by her black clad sister. "No" I answered shortly. "How was your summer?" asked Narcissa after taking her seat. Images flashed through my mind of my father "Meetings" which really turned out to be party's full of his drunken, leering friends and the times when he had raged and...I ran my hand unconsciously over the scars on my arm. "Good" I said. Narcissa looked at me a look of slightly masked concern "Are you sure?" she asked her eyes falling on my arm which my hand was still rested upon. I removed my hand and straightened the sleeve so it did not outline the raised marks on my flesh. "Sure" I said firmly. At school Narcissa was the only student who asked these types of questions and I wished she wouldn't. We then talked about thing such as the up incoming election for Minster For Magic and if The Dark Lord what attempt to secure the postion. The sort of died away at the mention of The Dark Lord and we rode for a time in silence until Narcissa uttered the words I had been waiting to hear all summer. "I can see Hogwarts".
