The Haunted Stranger
Chapter 7
Carleen Crouch lived on the 23rd floor. Her hotel was thought to be haunted, especially the room on the 23rd floor.
But Carleen didn't believe in that nonsense.
Carleen was walking her two pet dogs from the park to her home when she noticed something. A stranger standing by the her apartment.
After reaching the lobby, she went over to the stranger. Being the nosy and sassy girl she was, she asked the stranger what he was doing there.
"Just minding my own business, child.", the old man grumbled. Carleen smirked and brushed back her brown hair, "You think I'm as dumb as a brick?", she laughed.
When she stopped laughing, she noticed her friend, Jeremy. His eyes were furrowed. Carleen gulped, all she wanted was for Jeremy to like her back, but she was too rude.
He stopped in front of her. "The polite thing to say is if he needs anything.", she said.
"Go away children. Especially from the 23rd floor.", the stranger muttered.
"What the heck is wrong with the 23rd floor? It is not haunted!", she yelled, she tried calming down with Jeremy put a hand on her shoulder. Jeremy always calmed her down, that's why Carleen loved him.
After she calmed down, the old man gestured toward them. "Come along.", he said. The friends followed him.
They took the elevator to the 23rd floor.
"Long time ago, there was a woman that wanted to marry a man that was too good for her. The woman was selfish, greedy, and beautiful. She was mad when the man she loved chose another heart. The woman he chose was the bad woman's sister. She cursed her sister so that she'll never be able to see her husband, who meanwhile was miserable forever. The bad woman saw how sad the man was. But she could not undo the curse even if she wanted to. So, she killed the man so he could be with the woman he truly loved. I was sent here to unhaunt this place.", the strange grumbled. Carleen wanted to help the stranger, so she could make a good impression on Jeremy. "We'll help.", she said.
So, together, all three of them gathered as many onions as they could, and placed them all over the 23rd floor, the floor the sister was cursed. The old man had to leave to gather more onions at the store, because onions keep the curse away.
Carleen looked over to Jeremy when the stranger left. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I've been a jerk. The truth is, I love you and I've only been wanting you to feel the same for me.", she said, tears in her eyes.
When Jeremy noticed the tears, he hugged her and kissed the top of her head. "Of course I love you. But not in the way you think of me. I have loved you from since we were kids, Carly.", he said. Carleen pushed away.
"Don't call me that. You called me that when we were 7! My 18 year-old name is Carleen." she said seriously. "Well, I'm sorry Carleen.", he smirked.
The next was not clear, but happy. The onions worked, and the stranger turned out to be the brother of the killed man. He said his brother would not have wanted the apartment cursed. The next happy thing was with Carleen and Jeremy. Jeremy decided to give Carleen a second chance, at which she succeeded in.
"The message of the story was love and death.', the brother said. Jeremy looked down at Carleen, "I guess it was. But also that everyone has a good heart deep down.", he smiled.
