Chapter 1
When I was back to full health after having been seriously ill with M.E.D. (Magical Eating Disorder) my uncle realised that my Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons were not, up to standard. I had always had extra tuition various subjects but he felt that my practical work was below standard. And it was not just me but everyone in my year.
I understood from other Gryffindors that Harry Potter was starting a DUMBLEDORE’S ARMY but no offence to him, but I didn’t see what he could teach me. Yes, he had been in difficult situations but I wasn’t going to be fighting my father. Yes, I knew he was back, I wasn’t stupid, but it was the other things that I was more nervous about. Death Eaters, curses, jinxes, but mainly my own body, weakened heart and the way I would react to him. I asked my uncle to guide me. He knew what I was capable of and he could make it look like he was just a concerned parent educating a child that had been sick. We did a variety of different skills.
1- Protection (reinforcing what I was able to do naturally)
2- Defence against the Dark Arts (because I wasn’t getting taught)
3- Occlumency (tricky but something I had done since I was young)
4- Charms (he decided that as we were using the time we might as well work on my worst subject)
Most other people went to Harry that I knew but a few of them, mainly Slytherins, came to work with us. I always looked at it as extra family time rather than extra work time. Which quite a few people did. It wasn’t like there was homework and it was fun. I preferred it when only my Gryffindor friends were there though because they knew how close we were as niece and uncle. I had to block people; use counter-curses it was intense but we were at NEWT level.
Why did we do them like this? Because, of course I had been sick, and Umbridge, that stupid Defence against the Dark Arts teacher and High inquisitor of Hogwarts made an order (24) that any student found to have formed, or to belong to an organization, society, group or club that has not been approved by her would be expelled.
I think these extra lessons got word to Dumbledore though. The next year, he was made Defence against the Dark Arts Teacher, I may be biased but he was an amazing teacher and saw me through my NEWTs with top marks. Yes, he was tough but he only did it so people could be the best.
I went, every so often to visit my friends on Dumbledore’s Army but I still wasn’t 100%. The things I needed to learn were how to produce a patronus, but I was never going to manage that. The rest I knew.
