Chapter 4

It
was still dark and I lay with my eyes wide open. I turned over
and
over
in bed, kicking and turning the cover. It was too cold without the
blanket
but
it was too hot with the blanket. My head was spinning and I felt so
hot. I
had
enough and kicked the blanket off. I dragged myself out of bed and
fell on
the
cold floor, cooling myself. I then put my hand on the knob, turning
the
little
red arrow to 60 degrees. It didn't take long for the temperature to
cool
down.
To pass the time I went down the creaking stairs into the hallway,
into
the
kitchen, turned on the lamp so that there isn’t too much light and
poured
myself
a small glass of water. I put the cold glass up to my pink lips, and
let
the
cooling water enter my body. I heard something move, so I rapidly
turned my
head.
Watching through the empty darkness like an owl.

“Is
anyone there?” I asked into the empty darkness that surrounded
me.
The
lamp began to flicker and stopped. I felt my heart beginning to beat
against
my
chest strongly. I heard a gentle thump
and
I thought I saw a shadow
scurry
among the darkness that devoured me. I hear another thumpand
another. I then and there decided to put the light on. I ran to
the
light
switch and swiped it up. I welcomed the light with relief and began
to
examine
the room. I heard a whoosh
behind
me so I whirled around. I turned sharply
and
my eyes fell on my black cat Max.

“Max!”
I scream with a slight whimper.

“You
literally scared the life out of me.” I add more in a whimper.
He
just
looks up at me and then runs off. I sigh and grab my glass of water.
I
switched
the light off in the kitchen and walked up the creaky stairs, my
hand
sliding
on the rail of the staircase. I enter my room and take a big sigh,
cold
at
last.

“Much
easier to fall asleep…”I breathe in and out heavily.
I
take a small sip of my water and place it on my dark blue side table
to
the
right of my bed. I slip under the covers and closed my eyes. The next
thing
I
knew I was out. I start falling through a cloud of colors, falling
and
falling.
I land on my bed.

In
my dream I wake up to my white alarm clock beeping and the smell of
my
favorite
breakfast…waffles. I sniff the air, smiling. I race down the
stairs
entering
the kitchen rapidly, then I abruptly stop in my tracks, or should I
say
Harry
Potter slippers. A lady was eating some waffles inmychair.

“Oops,I
forgot you sit there!” This strange lady wearing a flower blouse
with light

blue
jeans dabs a napkin on the tips of her lips and stands up and sits in
the

chair
next to mine.

“How…”I
start to say, but I get interrupted.

“Hi,my
name is…Mrs. Franey. Ahem sorry.” She says pausing then smiling
awkwardly.

“Okay…”
I slowly say.

“Mrs.
Franey here is going around the neighborhood, seeing if anyone needs
emotional

support.”
My aunt explains as she puts a stack of waffles on the table in my
spot.

“Emotional
support?” I say with one eyebrow raised.

“She
is a therapist.” My aunt adds turning around to face me, while at
the same time
flipping
a waffle.

“I
wanted to know if we can see her a few times a week about…” She
didn’t finish
because
I stopped her.

“No.”
I say way to fast.

“I
hope
I’m not intruding, I know, I mean I understand how uncomfortable it
must be
for
you sapphire.” She looks at me, standing up and placing her hands
together.

“I
never
said my name is sapphire…” I say starting to back away.

“Didn’t
you?” She says. I don’t move a muscle, I just stare. My Aunt then
comes in
between
me and Mrs. Franey.

“Mrs.
Franey told me about all the children she helped and the great things
she has
accomplished.
We are going to try and see if she can help. I know you don’t
want
to talk about it but I think you should. I haven’t told her
anything
because
I wanted your approval.” My aunt tells me slowly and gently. I look
at
her.
I want to shout out no. A giant no because how can I trust Mrs.
Franey. How
do
I know she won’t tell anyone? Then everyone will know, and then
people will
see
me like I’m insane. I will be so much more different than I already
am. On
the
other hand, I could dig around some information about Mrs. Franey and
who
she
is. She could be a good, trustworthy therapist. She also could be
the
opposite…

“Fine,”I
curtly say and leave. Just walk out the door.
