Chapter 1
Women Equality Rights
By Helen Bagshot
For many years, women have had to fight for equality more than men. When there were slaves, black women had to fight for equality more than black men. Not only did they have black skin, but they had the limitations of female’s in the Americas. Women were thought to have smaller, less smart brains than men. The ERA (The Equal Rights Amendment) was, or is, works to garantee equal rights for all american citizens, regardless of the sex. Not only is it helping the women equality rights, but it seeks to end the legal discriminations between men and women in matters of divorce, property, employment, and other matters. The first version of the ERA was written by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman. IT was introduced in Congress in December 1923. Our world is still led by men, whether it is within the government, environmental sector, STEM fields or as head of the household. In 2019 only a third of elected officials at the locat, state and federal level, were women. 22 states have never had a woman for governor. Women have been fighting for equal rights for generations, for the right to vote, the right to control our bodies and the right to equality in the workspace. All these battles have been hard fought, but we still have a long way to go, and our victories are under threat. Equality in the workplace -- won in the range of fields from domestic work to the entertainment industry can tell you - it’s still just fantasy.
