Chapter 1
1st September 1995. Put yourselves, if you can, into the position I was in. 6th year Gryffindor Student. You have been raised by your uncle, Professor Severus Snape, Potions Master and Head of Slytherin. 2 months ago, your boyfriend was killed and you spent the summer grieving for him, whilst under the “protection” of the Order of the Phoenix. 3 weeks ago, you found out something that the rest of the members had been hiding from you. You found out that Voldemort, your father, was alive. That he had found a way to regenerate to a full form. You had been dreading coming back to school, dreading seeing reminders of Cedric or anything else. There is just one thing that catches you unaware. A new professor that interrupts Professor Dumbledore’s start of term speech.
Usually I met with professors starting the year either because I was already at Hogwarts when they started or because they would come to our house in Knockturn Alley. But this was the first time I had met with this teacher. Harry pointed her out as soon as we got there because she had been at his hearing in August. Her name was Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge. She wore a pink cardigan, and was very short. I still can’t look at anything pink without thinking of her. You could say that it left an impression on me. The fact that she worked for Fudge, for the Ministry was already a concern. I had seen what they had done to Percy. I was not good. Her speech was long and full of little pointers, that I felt targeted certain relatable topics that she wanted us to know and enforce. The point was it defiantly caught my attention.
