Chapter 1
In September 1994 I was on a role. I won I got made prefect Hogwarts School. I don’t know if people expected it from me simply because of my “parentage” but my father had been a Slytherin Prefect and my uncle was a Professor and Head of House. Many kept saying that that was why. I was in Gryffindor. I thought nothing about it.
Prefects are chosen by the Headmaster from Male and Female fifth year students. In Gryffindor we had people like Cormac Mclaggan. You could hold the position until you moved to Head Boy or Head Girl. There are certain privileges that come with being a prefect, such as where you eat, where you sleep. Etc. However there is extra work that goes into being a prefect. Your work load is suddenly tripled. You are expected to be at certain places at certain times and you have to take your duties seriously. Otherwise don’t bother turning up.
Many jobs hire people on the premise of whether they have been a prefect or not because it is an acknowledgement of having been a service to your school. I was only a prefect for one year (94/95) everyone thought that it would clearly be too much for me to become prefect for another year after losing such a close friend.
In 1996 I was made Head Girl. If you think that a Prefect has many duties then trust me, the Head Boy and Head Girl have many more. The trick is to pass down as many of the duties onto the prefects as you can. Again, this role was something that people liked to think that I was made for as a Snape. However, these were people that didn’t know who my father was and that he was also made a Head Boy. Perhaps, in me Dumbledore thought he could correct a previous error that he had made with my father. I don’t know what that could have been though.
Many families when they find out that their family member has been made a prefect choose to offer them a gift of some kind. I don’t know if you would call it a gift but when I was made a Prefect, my father found a way to regenerate and my boyfriend / best-friend was killed. When I became Head Girl, I was asked to sit next to my father at Malfoy Manor.
