Trans Artist

Harper has always been different. He's known this for almost as long as he can remember, and he's always been nervous around others, unsure of how they'd react. It doesn't help that the church girl is constantly berating him and his best friend, or that his parents are always trying to make him more "normal". He just wants to live his life. The way he wants to.

1. This is Me

Chapter 1
My name's Harper. Harper Matthews. I'm a seventeen year old boy in my junior year of high school. I do not look forward to school, at all. The only good thing is my best friend Alex. She's cool and everything, just what you'd look for in a best friend. Now, just a warning-
"Elizabeth!" I jumped, dropping my pencil. A few classmates snickered from behind their hands as my teacher glared at me. "How many times do I have to call your name for you to answer me?" she asked, crossing her arms.
'Cause that's not my name!' I wanted to yell, but I took a deep breath and exhaled. "I'm sorry Mrs. Mayhew. Could you repeat the question?" I was sure she was asking me some dumb question on history or whatnot.
She gave an inward sigh. "As I need to repeat myself again, the question was 'What exactly caused the downfall of the Ancient Egyptian empire?'"
I thought for a moment. Geez, it was on the tip of my tongue..."Ummm...the Roman Empire conquering them?" I tried. I knew the two were close at some point. But her stare told me instantly I was wrong.
"This is why you need to pay attention more, Miss Matthews. The original Ancient Egyptian empire fell around 2150 BCE, whereas Rome conquered the Greek Ptolemaic Kingdom around 30 BCE. There were multiple centuries of Greek rule before the Romans came along. However, it was not the Greeks, as they conquered Egypt around 332 BCE. The most common speculation of the fall of Ancient Egypt was the death of Pharaoh Pepi the Second and the erratic flooding of the Nile, destroying the crops and starving the people." She looked around at everyone in the room. "Why aren't you all writing that down?" The sounds of students scribbling filled the room. "And see me after class, Miss Matthews." she said as she turned around.

"What happened to you?" Alex asked as I neared my locker. Her brown hair was cut short and streaked with color, this week red. Her green eyes smiled at me, matching the smile on her face. She was wearing her usual crop top red hoodie, gray shirt, and camo pants. Don't ask me where she buys them, I don't know. She had a silver hoop earring in her ear, but just the one. She had a friendship bracelet on, the one I made for her: deep red-orange, orange, white, pink, and then dark pink. The one she made for me was on my wrist: light blue, light pink, white, light pink, and light blue again.
"Mrs. Mayhew being a demonic teacher," I said as I threw open my locker, shoving my history books inside. I grabbed my gym bag, ready to take my clothes home for the weekend. I threw my backpack in as well and headed to the locker room with Alex.
"Geez. You need to stop hating history you know." she said, smiling at me. I glare at her, rubbing a section of my hair between my fingers. "Like you can talk. You're acing all your classes, while I'm struggling in most of them!"
"Geez Harper, calm down," she said smiling, waving her hands. I smile back at her and open my mouth to say something.
"Why do you keep calling her that?" a voice cuts in, sharp and cold. I exhale, and turn around to come face-to-face with the Father's daughter: Kaitlyn Hollister. "I don't recall inviting you into this conversation, Kaitlyn." Alex says.
"How many times does someone have to tell you? Her name is Elizabeth, and she's not a boy. Stop feeding into her sin." she said, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder. Her hair was naturally a little curly, but I feel like she curls it in the morning anyway. She was wearing a pink and white dress and flats. Her brown eyes glared at Alex and I like we were shit on the bottom of her shoes.
"It's not a sin, and I'm not a girl!" I exclaim, my anger rising. She rolled her eyes and walked away, muttering under her breath. Alex places a hand on my shoulder. "Come on Harper. Let's just get to gym." I nod and she leads me away.

Hey! So I have a few books published here, but I wanted to bring to light the problem LGBTQ people face. I was reading one of my favorite online comics Magical Boy, which is about a trans male who is supposed to be this goddess of light and faces huge doubt about himself. So I thought about writing a story that helped shed a little more light on the discrimination and problems members of the LGBTQ family face.
I know first hand as a bisexual (and maybe non-binary, I'm still questioning) individual that it's not easy. Some members of my family aren't exactly open, and so I can't be completely open about myself. And it doesn't help that I'm dating a bigender individual (if you hear me reference my boyfriend outside of rps, that's how I'm referring to. He doesn't care what you call him, but I do he/him).
We've had some tough times, but I really wanted to help my brothers and sisters who are facing harder family situations than we are! Thank you for reading!
