Chapter 1
When Remus Lupin lost his best friends, he had no idea what to do with his daughter. Accalia was two years old and he'd always been able to send her to James and Lily's for his transformations and before that his wife had taken her. But they were all gone now. What could he do with his daughter on the full moon? It wasn't even as if he'd told her, he didn't want to scare her either. Tonight was full-moon and he had no plans.
"Accalia!" he called. His sweet Accalia ran to join him.
"Yes, Daddy?" she said.
"It's bedtime, darling," Remus told his daughter. He took her up to her bedroom and tucked her into bed.
"Can you read to me?" she asked him.
Remus faltered. He hadn't expected this and he really didn't have time. He reached down and stroked Accalia's soft black hair.
"Not tonight, sweetie, it's late," he said, kissing her forehead.
"Okay," she sighed. "Night Daddy."
"Night, darling," he said. "Sweet dreams."
With that, her father left Accalia's room. It wasn't much, but Accalia loved it. Her father wasn't rich, so they couldn't afford much. Accalia loved her peeling walls and breaking windows. It was home to her. It was all she'd ever known.
Later that night, there came a howl that woke Accalia up. She sighed and stepped out of bed. She put on her pink rabbit slippers and crept downstairs. She headed out to the garden where she found the source of the howl. A wolf. Accalia smiled and ran to it. She was too innocent for her own good. She didn't understand that it could be potentially dangerous. All she thought about was the fact it looked fluffy.
The wolf bent down and Accalia thought it was about to kiss her. It did not. It sunk its teeth into the little girl's neck. Accalia cried out in pain. She whimpered and fell to the ground. Tears splashed down her front but her father did not come to comfort her. Not until the morning at least.
The cries that morning, both Lupins cries mingled together was far worse than anything else.
