Chapter 9
Austin awoke to find the Great Hall in completely destroyed and ravaged as cups of juice and tables were flipped and broken into pieces. He began walking until he saw Rin and a Slytherin girl walking into a door that appeared from the walls of the hallway. Inside he could hear tons of voices shouting and laughing. He walked forward and the door appeared for him as well.
He walked inside and was instantly embraced in a tiny hug.
"Austin!" shouted Rin.
"Hey Rin. What's going on? What happened to the Great Hall?" he asked scratching his head.
"We don't know, when everyone woke up it was just destroyed." she said with a frown, "but at least you're here."
"Great. Now I won't get any piece or quiet." said a familiar voice. The boy looked up to see Marie sitting from the rafters, not in her animagus form for once.
"Well hi to you too." he said sarcastically.
"Ugh! What is that smell?" Marie said covering her nose, "It smells like wet dog." Austin smelt himself thoroughly. He had forgotten that he had taken a shower before heading out of the Gryffindor Common Room.
"Yeah! Way to go Austin, spreading your musk and scent." Rin said energetically. Unlike her, he felt a little embarrassed of his smell he had tracked into this new room.
"I....kinda took a shower before coming here. I guess I didn't dry myself off well enough."
"You canines are all dimwits. You can't even clean yourselves properly." she said licking her hands.
"At least I use an actual towel!" he snapped back. She quickly realized what she was doing and put her hand back down.
"Anyways, Rin, what is this place?" He asked.
"Oh! This is the Room of Requirement. Wish it to open for you and the door shall appear." she said. "It opens to anyone whether they be pureblood, halfblood, even muggleborn."
Suddenly a Ravenclaw girl with a large iron boxed cage came in. Marie frowned and dropped from her post as she walked over and began talking to the suspicious Ravenclaw.
Rins eyes grew wide at the sight of the cage and a devilish smile spread across her face.
"Don't even think about it Rin. That cage is none of our business." Austin said patting her head.
"Aw, you're no fun." The girl sat pouting.
"Suspicious. Very suspicious indeed." said a voice next to the two Gryffindors. Both of them turned their heads to see a Slytherin girl with blonde hair and bright green eyes staring straight at the cages. Austin noticed her as she was the girl who walked into the room with Rin.
"What's up RC?" Rin asked.
"Well for one, that cage, but also this one." The Slytherin girl turned as her eyes locked with Austin's. His heart began beating fast and his face turned bright red.
"How am I suspicious?" he asked. The girl giggled and like a snake moved around fluidly putting her hands on the boy.
"Well this long scarf for starters. It almost drops to the ground, a few more inches and it would begin dragging. Your hair as well it looks so poofy and fluffy and finally you have a weird smell around you." RC said. The boy was so red he could be mistaken as a lobster, as he remained quiet. Rin on the other hand had sly eyes and a devious grin as she giggled as well. The boy didn't know whether to be insulted or flustered by her words. All he could do was stand dumbfounded and speechless.
"RC, I think you just broke him." Rin said laughing.
"I do that sometimes sweety." the girl said moving her white hair behind her ears. Austin still stood there, wide eyed, red, and not moving.
"Austin. Aaaauuustin." Rin said
"Yo! Dog breathe! Said Marie as she chucked a muffin, hitting him in the head.
The boy snapped out of it, "Ow! What was that for?" he asked.
"C'mere for a second and help me with these." she said pointing at the cage. He swallowed hard at the sight of the cage and walked over. In a flash, Marie opened the cage, reached in a began grabbing large eggs: one red, two green, and another brown.
"Eggs? What is inside them?" he said skeptically.
"Oh, nothing much, dragons." Marie said grinning.
"Dragons!" he said just as he grabbed the red egg.
"My grandmother owns a dragon conservation and these eggs were delivered to her. Instead of keeping them she wanted me to give them to people who might give them a good home until they are fully raised. And you, Mr. Creature Lover, I think can handle one." she said biting into another baked good.
"But I haven't been up close to dragons. I've only read books and had stories from my father to go by." No sooner had he said that, the red egg cracked.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRICK! CRACK! CHK!
More cracks began showing as pieces of egg fell from the boys hands.
"What have I gotten myself into?" he said to himself. Rin quickly ran over from RC to find what was causing the cracking sounds.
"What is that? What's going on?" she asked. Finally the egg exploded in the boys hand and a red scaled dragon cooed and stretched its wings in his hands. It had fur like feathers on its tail and around it's head, clearly a dragon of Asian descent.
"Oh. My. Gosh. That is adorable! Can I have one?" she asked Marie.
"Sure, they're all about to hatch anyways." Marie said as she handed her one of the green eggs. It hatched into a green scaled dragon that had rather large wingspans. The other egg was a dragon of the same species and the brown egg held a dragon with golden brown scales and ridged back spine.
"I know these species," Austin said, "this is a Chinese fireball, those two are common welsh greens, and that one is a Norwegian Ridgeback."
"Well now their yours. So which one do you want to keep? ' Marie said.
"I guess the one I'm holding." he said.
"Alright, I'll give the other two to some others. Make sure you take good care of him now." Marie walked off, while the boy pet his new scaly friend."
"What are you gonna name him?" Rin asked, "I'm naming mine Emerald."
"I think I'll call him-," as the boy held up the dragon it hiccuped and fiery embers and smoke flew into his face. "Blazer." he coughed out. The dragon cooed as it nuzzled against his scarf and looked at Austin with its wide orange dragon eyes.
An instant bond was made as the creature slithered up and perched itself on his shoulders.
"What a great way to start the day." He thought
