Familiar Friends
Chapter 2
The boy stepped off the train and walked around the docked area. The small boats were bobbing up and down in the murky waters and in the distance he could spot a giant castle with luminous windows, Hogwarts. Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind him.
"Wait, I'd know that bouncy brown curly hair anywhere."
He turned to be hugged by a girl, he'd never thought he'd see here of all places. It was his friend Elizabeth who he met a few months ago while at his last year of a muggle school.
"Libby? What are you doing here? I didn't know you were magical." he said surprised.
"Yep and not just me." she said showing a few more friends he had also met at muggle school. His friends Danny, Bob, Matt, and Ecko were there as well.
"Wow. You're all magical? Sweet, maybe we'll all be in the same houses." Austin said hugging them all.
"I don't know if we'll have that good of luck." said Matt scratching his head.
"Well in any case at least we are all here together." said Ecko who suddenly chuckled. "Okay Austin, what is that snake of cloth hanging around your neck?"
Austin looked down at his scarf which over took his neck.
"It's a hand me down from my grandfather." he said to her.
"But's it's the scarf of a Gryffindor. Don't you think you should wear it after you find out what house you're in?" Danny asked.
"Well it is warm and comfy, so I'm just deciding to wear it for now." Austin said grabbing it tight.
"Hey it looks like the boats are about to leave!" shouted Libby. As they all saw the boats begin to start magically moving by themselves. Matt, Danny, Bob and Austin got in a boat while Libby and Ecko got into another with other girls.
The boats departed from the dock and traveled slowly towards the castle.
Austin and the guys talked about their pasts and how they found out they were magical all the way to the Hogwarts docks. As soon as the boats docked, they jumped out and headed towards the big doors in the side of the school with the other students and soon they were sitting in the Great Hall.
The Headmaster, Jaecob Balog, stepped in front of an owl mantle and began speaking.
"Welcome students. I hope you are excited for this glorious year at Hogwarts. Before we feast there is the task of sorting the newly first years into their houses." he said peering at the new first years.
He took out a brown old hat and sat it on a chair. It had folds that looks like eyes and a mouth like it was going to come alive at any moment.
"Now when I call your name I want you to come up and sit on the chair as the hat sorts you out."
Some first years Austin never knew were called up and at first he was shocked at the talking hat. He soon got used to it and heard some of his muggle school friends get called up.
Danny, Elizabeth and Bob were sorted into Gryffindor, where as Matt and Ecko were sorted to Ravenclaw. Austin grew nervous with anticipation to find out where he belonged. Maybe Slytherin or perhaps Hufflepuff, those houses have some good traits. Maybe he would be a Ravenclaw and be with Matt and Ecko.
"Finally, Austin Chiavaroli." the headmaster said looking at the boy.
He shakily walked towards the chair with the talking hat. He sat down as the hat was plopped onto his head.
"My boy, I see you have much kindness and high spirit's in you. And you already wear the scarf of a Gryffindor. Why is that?" it asked as some of the children in the Grand Hall giggled at the long dangling scarf.
"Um...well it is a hand me down from my grandfather and dad." he said.
"Ah, yes I remember them. They were great Gryffindor's the both of them and they had the same traits that you do. Well then, I will not disappoint them and put you in your rightful house. Gryffindor!" the hat shouted as the Gryffindor table lit up in cheers.
The boy smiled as he expected he was going to get that house. He walked over and sat with his friends and feasted with the rest.
Once the feast was done he went to the Gryffindor common room with Bob, Danny, and Elizabeth. Picking a dorm was hard to determine, so the four decided on choosing an empty one for themselves.
They said their goodnights and went to bed excited for the following day when their classes would start.
Austin laid awake for a while longer, happy that he had found a home away from home.
