Chapter 1
Located in the borough of Islington, London this is the ancestral home of the Black Family. Although it is now the location of the Potter family. I could say many things about this house but most are dark depressing and I really want to feel happier. It is a muggle area and the terraced house is concealed with the fidelius charm. It was the first time in my life that I had lived in such a grand and opulent building, away from Hogwarts. The first house, Cokeworth, was a sad terraced two storied house in an industrial muggle town. The second house was in Knockturn Alley, a ¾ storied building with a hidden entrance. Then a tree, Hogwarts and now a grand Georgian building in the centre of London. I arrived in July 2005.

As you enter the front door there is a long corridor. The kitchen with a curiously long table that looks very much like ours at Knockturn Alley is there on the left with a bathroom at the back. Stairs lead down to a basement that nobody ever went in but house-elves. The stairs took up most of the space and where most people congregated and met. There was a wall hanging of Sirius’s mother. I never liked it. I asked him to cover it over.
On the first floor was a bedroom, bathroom and lounge. One side was decorated with the Black Family Tree. Some people were burnt out. The room, in fact the whole house had a very “green” feel to it. You could tell that the majority had been Slytherins and Death Eaters.

The second floor included the main bedroom, a bathroom and smaller bedroom. The third floor felt as though it was where they put visitors that they wanted to make a good impression on, with several bedrooms and a bathroom. Sirius had a room on the fourth floor but he didn’t like to use it much. Too many memories. My room was also on the fourth floor whether he thought he could keep a better eye on me or what, I don’t know. I had the room at the front. It used to belong to Sirius’s younger brother, Regulus. It was a nice room. It has two big windows that look out onto the street and the park opposite. I love looking out of windows. I have always done it at Knockturn Alley.

Finally, the spiral staircase led to the loft area that was basically all the “treasures” of the house in one space. I have never looked as it was not my place but I would imagine you would find a few dark objects in there if you looked hard enough. It is here that I spent the summer and winter of 1995. Sirius decided to hand it over to Dumbledore as a location for the Order of the Phoenix. I did go back after Sirius died but it became hard. Life was starting to change for me.

Nowadays I tend to avoid it if I can. It isn’t because it reminds me of Sirius. He is the reason I go back. I don’t go because I hate that I stayed there for a long time in pain. In grief. It reminds me of those feelings that I would rather not have. I am reminded that I need to replace them with new memories, happy memories that fill me with joy instead.

The hardest part is getting into the house. Because you have to know where it is. A disillusionment charm is placed on the house. Seek and ye shall find. It is hardest when going in and out as a dog. All things considered; it could have been worse.
