Nora sat down by the lake, listening to the water when she heard footsteps behind her and..

as Nora turned, she saw James quickly turn his head from her to looking at the water himself. He just stood there, awkwardly. He quickly adjusted himself, shifting his weight to the other leg, then putting his hand on his hip, then realizing how awkward he probably looked, took it off his hip and stood up straight again.

"What r u doing?" Nora asked standing up. She noticed that James's Hair was very messy, he looked like he just got up.

"I... ahhh... um... I was... just looking for... the thing is... " James then mumbled something to himself that Nora couldn't make out, "Hi, my name is James," and he walked until he was within arms reach with his arm sticking out ready to shake hers, "I'm a first year, in Ravenclaw, haven't seen you around."

Nora cringed. But she stuck out her hand. "I'm Nora, I'm also a first year student" She said.

“Nice to meet you” shaking Nora’s hand, “aahhh, I don’t usually do this, but I’m trying to be brave and make friends, but, um, do you want to talk? Is it ok if I talk to you, or did you just want to be alone?” James patted down his hair, which he did often, it never stayed down.

"Uh, sure" Nora said kindly. She sat back down and stared at the lake.

James sat next to her, but not close enough as to be able to touch her. “So, do you come out here often?”

"Yeah, just to clear my head" Nora said smiling.

“I was coming to escape people. Sometimes it just gets too much in the common room. I like 1 on 1, but crowds are too much. You ever feel like that?”

"Yeah i do" Nora says. She looks over her shoulder at the castle

James also looks at the castle, then back to Nora. "Is everything ok?"

"Yeah, Family problems at home"

"Sorry." James felt awkward. "Families can be stupid. What is your family like?"

"Well they're loving and kind. They send me 3-4 owls a week to check in, but the problem is that I haven't got anything from them in a couple weeks and I'm scared that they aren't all right" Nora said, turning her head to the ground. "But anyway," She said. "What's your Family like?" Nora asked.

My family... they're boring. My parents work a lot. I was in boarding school before I got my letter, and most holidays I spent with my aunt..." James just couldn't drop Nora's family.. "Have you spoken to the Professors? Maybe they can check on your family for you?"

"Yeah, i'll try that. Thx" Nora said looking up. She smiled.

Standing up, "I know I hardly know you, but do you want me to come with? I can be good moral support."

Yeah, sure" Nora says smiling even more. She gets up and walks over to the lake. "Where r u going? I'll meet u there" She said.

"Oh..um...I kinda got excited... I do that sometimes. I got so excited, stood up like I was going to solve it now. Sometimes I think there should of been a house for people who do things without thinking, that house I would of fit in perfectly." James sits down again, but this time closer to Nora, and at a 90 degree angle to her slight in front of her, so that it would be easier to make eye contact with her.

"Oh, ok, I was going to show u a cool trick of mine, but I guess that could wait" She sits back down.

James stands up again. "I would love to see your trick!"... he then looks down shyly to Nora, holding out her hand to help her up, "Please show me your trick."

"Yeah, ok. Look at the water for a sec then at the stairs" Nora says. She Walks into the water and sinks down. James looks over at the stairs and Nora pops up there in second.

"WOW!!! Wow Wow Wow!!!" James pulls his wand out. "I can pretty much do this so far, Verdimillious!" A green light shoots out over the pond then explodes. "Can you teach me what you did?"

"Just a Family trait" Nora says blushing. She had never shown it to anyone before.

James takes another look at Nora, seeing her in a new light now

"Can all witches do different things? Like does every witch have a unique family ability? Do I have a unique family ability and don't know about it? Oh wait... do I not have a cool ability because I'm muggle born? I know almost nothing about magic, there is so much you could teach me!" At this point James has gone from trying to hide that he thinks Nora is pretty to going full on geeking out that she is cool.

"Everyone has something, u just have to believe in yourself!" Nora said. She walked back up to the lake and sat back down.

James just stands there for a while, like an idiot. dumb struck. Eventually he shakes his head a bit, snaps himself out of his dazzle, and walks back to Nora and sits down next to. He has a fat grin on his face. "I think you're the most interesting person I've ever met."

"Thx so much!" Nora says, smiling at James.

James just sits next to Nora, staring at the lake.

"You're very kind" Nora says

James blushed. "Thanks, you make me want to be kind to you." James quickly looks out far into the lake. "I mean... like you're a nice person and I want to be nice to nice people." and then starting to talk really fast again, "Not that I'm only nice to nice people... I mean... I'm not usually mean... Um... well... I'm trying to say that I like being nice to you... wait... " and then with a very disappointed and embarrassed look on his face, "I'll just stop talking now."

Nora laughs. "That's ok, silly, i get what u mean!" She says.
