The Daily Prophet

The Daily Prophet is the most used Wizarding newspaper. It gives a good amount of information and lets you know what is going on. For example, it told Harry in the third Harry Potter book that Sirius Black was on the loose. It also showed the picture of the Weasley family in Egypt.

So basically it is the best Wizarding newspaper. That is, until the fourth Harry Potter book. We are all introduced to Rita Skeeter. She writes bad and untruthful things, and the worst part is, no one stops her! So, the Daily Prophet can be good and bad.

Ilvermorny houses

As most of you know, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a North American School for young witches and wizards. Like Hogwarts, it has four houses: Horned Serpent, Wampus, Thunderbird, and Pukwudgie. Here’s some information on each house:

Horned Serpent
This house favours those who are considered scholars and is often referred as favouring the mind of young witches and wizards. It’s founder is Isolt Sayre and a known member is Seraphina Picquery.

Wampus
The founder of this house is Webster Boot. This houses often favours the body and chooses those who are warriors.

Thunderbird
This house was founded by Chadwick Boot and one of its most notable members was Porpentina (Tina) Goldstein. It represents the soul of a witch or wizard and it favours those who are adventurous.

Pukwudgie
The founder of this house was James Steward and one of its most notable members was Queenie Goldstein. It represents the heart of a witch or wizard and favours healers.

The Mandrake

The Mandrake, more primarily called Mandragora, is a magical plant that has roots that look like a human. Its roots look like a baby’s when it is young, and as it matures, it grows.

Its scream/cry can kill people. Baby Mandrakes can't kill us, but they can knock us out for several hours if you don’t wear earmuffs or have some sort of protection.

The leaves of the mandrake are also very useful. Mandrake leaves can be used to make the Mandrake Restorative Draught which can heal petrified people. An example of this potion can be found in Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets when students are petrified by the basilisk. The potion is made to resurrect the petrified students. In winter, the Mandrakes are cold, and that's why they have to wear socks.

Thestrals

Thestrals are magnificent, black, proud creatures. You may not believe me, because most people haven't seen them. You can only see thestrals if you have been tormented by death. Harry Potter didn't see thestrals after his parents' death, because he was only a baby, and didn't fully understand what happened. He only saw them after the tragic death of Cedric Diggory.

Most Thestrals come from Britain and Ireland, but you may see them in other places or something similar as many countries have animals that have very similar features as Thestrals.
