Animagus (continued)

Chapter 3
Animagi Register:
The Ministry of Magic maintains a register, which is intended to be exhaustive, of Animagi. In the 20th century, the register contains the names of the seven declared and extant Animagi. There are several Animagi that are illegal because they are not declared. The latter risk, if discovered, a prison sentence in Azkaban.

Known Animagi:
Falco Aesalon, falcon
Lisette de Lapin, white rabbit (possible)
Morgana, raven
Minerva McGonagall, tabby cat (declared)
Sirius Black aka Padfoot, dog (undeclared)
Peter Pettigrew aka Wormtail, rat (undeclared)
James Potter aka Prongs, stag (undeclared)
Rita Skeeter, scarab (undeclared)
Adrian Tutley, gerbil
William Sayre, crow
Talbott Winger, eagle (not declared)
Mother of Talbott Winger, swan (declared)
Jacob's younger brother, on a secondary quest, can be a dog, bird or cat (declared or undeclared)
The nature of James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew's Animagi is only known to a few people, both in their lives and after their deaths.
Most members of the Order of the Phoenix know after Voldemort's return that Sirius Black is an Animagus, as does Voldemort (informed by Peter Pettigrew).
Only Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Remus Lupine, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and Severus Snape knew that James Potter could turn into a stag.
It can also be assumed that all Death Eaters know that Peter Pettigrew is an Animagus, as do Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and the Order of the Phoenix.
