CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2
On the 24th June 1995, Mr Barty Crouch & Mr Ludo Bagman got up to make a speech to the crowd of honoured guests, students & parents that were seated in front of a grand maze at the Triwizard Tournament.
“Ladies and Gentlemen. Let us welcome our champions!” music played and people cheered. But nothing could be heard over the noise.

“From Durmstrang Academy VIKTOR KRUM”

“From Beauxbatons Academy FLEUR DELACOUR”

“and… from Hogwarts CEDRIC DIGGORY and HARRY POTTER!” The crowd was frantic. Louisa stood next to Amos Diggory and waved a small good luck wave. They had already spoken earlier as Professor Dumbledore had warned about the press woman Rita Skeeter taking too many photos at an inconvenient time. It was true. Her quill and camera must have had a charm on them because they always made things look different to the way they were.
She was giddy with excitement. After today they wouldn’t have to hide. They would be together again and nobody could stop them. The smile was plastered on her face as if someone had cast a cheering spell on her. She was high up on her cloud. The twins were selling well, everything was perfect.

After a while cries came from one side of the stadium. She couldn’t see what had happened. But the female competitor was lying on the ground. She looked fine, even if she was a little disorientated. Not long after that it was a male competitor. She strained to see who it was. By the way one man ran she could see that it must be Viktor Krum. He had been hexed. He wasn’t right at all. Hogwarts it seemed would be the champion it just depended on which one it would be. Diggory or Potter. By this time everyone had become very excited and the tension was immense. Amos was bouncing around so much you would have thought he was on a spring.

Suddenly, she was pulled from her seat and dragged by Professor Snape into the dungeons, to her old bedroom. It wasn’t the nicest of places but it had been a place she had called home for four years and a place that she retreated to when times were tough.

“Why did you drag me away? I saw that they had finished! If Harry has finished does that mean Cedric won?” she asked frantically. His demeanour was usually cold and placid, but not to her. This was not right. “Wait here” he said shoving her into the room and closing the door. She was shocked. What was going on? She sat on the bed and waited. It felt like and eternity before she heard footsteps outside the door. Was no news good news?

Professor Snape returned with Professor McGonagall who looked far more flummoxed than her usual composed self. Louisa stood immediately, trying to think of something that she may have done wrong.

“Louisa you may want to sit down” said McGonagall. Louisa had never heard the Scottishness in the Professor’s voice until now. Her eyes too were sparkling. “There has been a development in the Tournament.” Louisa looked from her to her uncle questioningly. She knew it wasn’t good but felt too scared to ask what it was.

“I’m afraid Cedric Diggory is dead”

Louisa couldn’t believe the words she was hearing. All manner of things started to pass through her head. This is a joke, they are lying, it isn’t real. It wasn’t any of those things. It wasn’t a joke; they weren’t lying and it most certainly was real.
