MERPEOPLE: Sentient, magical beasts that live underwater. They were offered the being status by the Ministry but refused in favour of beast as not to be classed with Hags and Vampires. Do not be deceived by these creatures, as they bare no resemblance to the fantasised versions people have of them. In paintings and pictures, they are shown as beautiful and elegant but these are creatures of the deep. They have grey skin, wild hair, broken teeth and yellow eyes. Perhaps in warmer climates they are have warmer tones but the ones I know are Scottish. They possess a human body with a fish like tail that helps them to move around with ease.
