"To those who act as agents of chaos, I say this: I stand resolute and unyielding. And if you strike my voice down, know that a chorus of thousands shall rise up in its place, for you have no dominion over the righteous. We are the defenders of truth." ―Padmé Amidala

First Year in The Galactic Senate
Chapter 6
Amidala served two terms as queen, and by the conclusion of her second term, the Naboo had grown so fond of Amidala that a faction tried to amend the constitution to allow her another term. However, Amidala declined this and stepped aside for her elected successor, Réillata. Not long after her coronation, Réillata asked Amidala to serve as Naboo's representative in the Galactic Senate, a request that Amidala ultimately accepted. Captain Mariek Panaka and Sergeant Gregar Typho accepted Amidala's request to accompany her to Coruscant. She hired three new handmaidens to act as Senate aides, Versaat, Cordyn, and Dorra, who later took the names Versé, Cordé, and Dormé.
When Amidala first arrived on Coruscant as a senator, holonews stations, such as TriNebulon News, questioned her loyalties and potential.[12] Amidala entered the Senate in the same year as Senator Rush Clovis of Scipio. The pair served on several Senate committees together.
During her first six weeks as a senator, she was required to participate in lengthy Senate Orientation events such as tours information sessions. During this time, she was assisted in her orientation by a Republic protocol droid, NON-3. Eventually, the droid was reprogrammed to assist in an assassination attempt against her. It led Amidala to the lower levels of the Senate building, where demolition and construction were scheduled to occur. Senator Bail Organa witnessed Amidala's entourage heading to the site and was able to intercept and warn Cordé, who was acting as a decoy for Amidala, and her handmaidens, including Amidala herself, before they were caught in demolition blasts. The holonews stations were quick to report her "barely avoided death" as a result of a "failure to read directions."
Amidala realized she needed to align with a faction so that she would have influence in the Senate. She decided against closely aligning with the Chancellor and working in his shadow. She also considered working with Mina Bonteri, but decided that their goals did not seem to align. Amidala still considered Mina Bonteri a friend, despite settling into a different faction than her. Instead, she decided to find senators who somewhat opposed the Chancellor and align herself with them in order to carve out her own identity. Eventually, she joined a faction led by Senators Organa and Mothma.
