Where does the food come from in Hogwarts? The same place it does anywhere else. The kitchen. I guess you don’t have time to think about it much when you are studying and food appears on a plate in front of you but I was at Hogwarts long before that.

When I first started at Hogwarts I was hidden in a tree. Food was more of a luxury than a necessity. I would have things brought down to me by my uncle, delivered. Otherwise our own house-elf Gert would bring me food to eat. Whichever way, it was tiresome and troublesome. When I got older, I began to eat either in the dungeons or in the kitchens themselves. Did I find it pleasant? No not really.

Food for me was certainly a chore. Something that preoccupied points of my time whilst I could be doing something else. I didn’t discover things that could be eaten as treats until I 10. Jam tarts, custard creams. These were things that were different and I learnt to appreciate food in a new way. Especially thanks to Fred and George. We would sneak into the kitchens, conveniently close to the Hufflepuff common room and get loads of food. One year they even worked out how to make Canary Creams which were hilarious!!!

I know many of the corridors but one of the ones I learnt from a very early age, before any sorting age was the tunnel on the opposite side to where I lived. It still led to dungeons and the underground level of the castle but it was completely different to where we lived. There are the usual stone steps and marble corridors but where we lived it was quite dull but this was bright and vibrant. If you go along this corridor, to the end there is a painting of a silver bowl of fruit. If you tickle the pear it turns into a door handle. Hey presto! One entrance into the kitchens. I used to have to let my eyes adjust after walking down there but it was worth it.

Banquets, Feasts and Meals so big it was always hard to believe... For people from a background such as mine, it was amazing. you could hardly believe it.
