MOTHER

Chapter 2
She couldn’t help but holding her breath. It was stupid but it made her feel better. She wasn’t entirely sure when she would end up. The room eventually stopped spinning but there was no clock on the wall. This must have been before her mother had died perhaps that is why she was here. She couldn’t believe it. She walked upstairs carefully and the same house-elf was greeting a man. “Hello Sir, My Lord” he gave a bow. If this was the elf she knew, he was vastly different. He looked worried. “Gert, where’s dinner?” replied the man. “Here My Lord.”

It seemed as though the house-elf was more than a slave at this time. She didn’t know what to do. She knew that she resembled her mother so if they saw her it was more than likely they would think she was her. Instead she transfigured into the first animal to cross her mind. Today it was a black puppy. She ran up through the basement and to the entrance where she ran straight out. “wow” she thought “that was lucky”. Lucky it may have been but as she looked around, she noticed that Severus Snape, her uncle was walking towards the house. Strange she thought. “I knew he was working both sides but to what extent, I’m not sure.” He took a look at the black puppy which started running around him and entered the house. Not wanting to miss anything she decided to follow.

“Severus, you came. I was beginning to wonder if you would.” Spoke the man

“Of course, My Lord.” Said Snape, dutifully.

“Have you seen Severina? Louisa?”

“Tomorrow. We will meet.”. “Of course,”, she thought they were supposed to have a meal together. “That’s why he came over. That’s how he found her, but he never did.” The memory of it starts to make her emotional.

“What’s with the dog?” asks the man. Snape looks around at her and simply shrugs. “No idea, My Lord”

It was too risky to stay in Knockturn Alley, so she went into a secluded spot, transfigured back and apparated to Cokeworth. It wasn’t long before she was standing by the tree on the common. It looked a little different but still the grim place she always thought of. She had only been there a moment when a woman started looking her up and down.

“Severina Snape isn’t it?” She felt uneasy.

“No, madam, er just a relative.” She said, recognising the woman as the nosey Mrs Blatch from next door.
She ran to the house and just outside it she stopped. Something inside of her was telling her that what she was doing was wrong. What would happen if she saved her mother? What would her life have been like? She would never have lived with her uncle. Perhaps become a Death Eater. She walked in the house just as she was and looked at the woman with a small child. The woman was attempting to feed the child very unsuccessfully. She looked on and smiled.

“It’s because she doesn’t like the vinegar on it” she said knowingly. The woman looked puzzled.

“I’m here to speak to you Severina”

“Who are you?” Severina was holding out her wand to the unknown visitor. “You look like…”

“Apparently I look like you” interrupted the visitor. “I’m glad I get to meet you as an adult.” Her tone was calm.

“You are going to die soon. Your daughter will mourn you for a long time, even name her daughter after you. But she will be safe and she will be happy. I promise you that.” The woman was inevitably shocked by this news. She looked at her daughter and back at the visitor.

“You found the time-turner” said the woman.

Silently the visitor nodded, tears welling in her eyes. “I thought I could save you mother, but if I do, so much will be undone. I just want you to know that I will be ok. That she will think of you every single day.”

The woman smiles “You are doing the right thing Louisa.” She brushes her cheek “I can see that I put you in the right hands.”

They stay together for what seems like an eternity. Talking and laughing, then she sends the child to get ready for bed. She didn’t need to know it would be for the last time. Not wanting to see the woman die again she decided to go upstairs and wait. It wasn’t long before the clock turned and she was back. Nothing had changed.
