Nightreader'S Notes

I'm told keeping a journal is a good way to stay organized (at least, that's what my mother says) so I'm giving it a go.

This notebook will contain my class notes and some essays as well as random thoughts about my daily life at Hogwarts.

Entry 10 - How I Got My Wand

Chapter 8

Length: 10 3/4 in
Wood: Ebony
Core: Unicorn
Flexibility: Slightly Springy

I
received my lovely wand as a gift. It so happens that one of my best
friends is studying wandlore and the crafting of wands and it was from
her that I obtained this one. In Iceland a lot of people still use
staffs as foci but wands have been gaining popularity, my own father
much prefers a wand (he got his from Ollivander's when he was traveling
in London). My friend wants to increase their popularity even more and
what better way to do so than to have a wandmaker in the country?

The
day my friend, Eva, gave me the wand was my birthday and it honestly
came as a complete surprise. I knew she was studying wandmaking, sure,
but I had no idea she had already made successful wands fit for selling.
Her own wand was the first her teacher, a nice Finnish lady, deemed
worthy of use. Her second was a beautiful oak wand she gave to her
brother. Her third was the one she gave to me.

It wasn't until
after the birthday party when it was just her, me and my family left
that I opened the presents and gasped in surprise at the gorgeous thing
laying in a box in my lap. I'd expected a lot of things but never a
personalized wand, made for me with specifically me in mind. I know Ollivander's doesn't
do that usually since it is true that some wands fit some people better,
etc., but when someone who knows you as well as Eva knows me makes it
with materials almost certainly the best fit for me, not to mention
embedding it with the feeling of belonging to someone right from the
beginning... Eva explained to me that a wand made like this, made with
someone special in mind, would never choose anyone else and has a much
stronger tie to their first owner than most wands do. I've had my wand
for three years now and couldn't be happier with it :)

And that's the story of how I got my wand ^^
